Just got a 98 3.8L V6 vert for my son. It has 126000 miles.
It of course needs some TLC. Engine, tranny, most interior, top, suspension all good.
Need to find out first some details on what I really have.
There is a badge on the drivers side that is GT with a red R under it.
Passenger side one is missing.
Purchased from a dealer and I am not a mustang knowledge house.

Any details on what I really have and what would be correct badging would be appreciated.

Also, shocks - rear seems soft. Does not overbounce but just seems easy to push down. Is this normal or are the springs wore out.

Needing some small interior parts such as rear speaker grills and console pad. Any ideas on a good place to pick up some of this stuff other than a local junk yard. Who are some cheap venders online that are reputable.

Also, shifter (automatic) seems to be missing something. You can see down thru the center into the mechanism. Should there not be a cover of some kind.

The side/fender emblems should be the running horse. Sounds like someone put some GT emblems on it wishing for a V8. If you have pics of what you have/need post them up I have some extra parts laying around here that you might need.

The only badge there should be on the sides is the running pony with the red, white & blue bars behind it. Anything else is the previous owner in dream land.

Shifter

I have a 98, and you can see down in mine as well. I don't think it's missing, but I'm not real sure.:SNSign:

Thanks for the help guys.
I guess I need to find a junk yard around here that has some parts.

Anyone know if the tranny torque converter has a drain plug on it in this car. I want to do a service and would like to have all the fluid removed. If I can't drain, guess I will have a power flush done.

And the power steering fluid looks like crap (pump making some noise as well). Any easy way to completely flush the system and refill w/ some synthetic fluid.

Sounds like a Nissan Skyline badge. If the car's a V6 Mustang and not a Nissan Skyline, get the pony emblems.

From the sound of things, you need an automatic shifter bezel. Find a junkyard.
I bought a shifter bezel along with a radio bezel with vents for $15 from a yard. From 5.0resto or any other reproduction part supplier I would've been looking at over $200.
Unfortunately, you may have to try a couple yards before finding any SN95 Mustang that hasn't been picked clean.

You have to drop the pan on the tranny to drain it. I would drop the pan instead of flush. You can change the filter, and flushing can cause debris from the bottom of the pan to get into places you don't want it.

A little noise is normal with Ford power steering pumps. If it does need fluid, make sure you use Automatic Transmission Fluid.

What color is your interior. I am replacing all of my gray interior with black/charcoal so I have a complete convertible interior that I am selling. I do have a charcoal colored auto shifter bezel in mint condition that came with my new console so just let me know if you are interested.

My interior is Tan. Shifter bezel is black. So is there supposed to be some kind of cover around the shifter so you can't see the linkage inside. I would say I could use some interior paint/dye but not sure I could match this color. It is a wierd tannish brown.

Does your look like this or is it missing the piece piece that goes around the shifter and snaps into the console?

Mine is the automatic. The large black piece is there. It is just as if the little rubber piece or brush piece that goes around the actual shifter rod to seal off is missing. Guess I will go by the dealership and see what they say or show in their parts manuals.

Oh ok. I think I have an auto shifter complete with cable in my garage. If you can post a pic of yours I can see if the one I have is the same.

Finally got some pics. Here is the shifter and as you can see there appears to be something missing where the shifter rod goes down to the linkage.
Also need a speaker cover and a trim piece cover for the passenger side.

Thanks.
