Those are a nice set of heads. Thumper heads are legendary around these forums. 1.94" valves are fine.
BTW nobody is selling GT40 Y303s that cheap anymore. I got them in July '04 when FRPP was removing the heads from crate engines so they could make long blocks with the new 'Z' heads. They sold them as 'take off' heads. At the time I was looking to get a set of Thumpers or Powerheads but these Y303s showed up for just a few $$$ more. Couldn't pass it up. No regrets here.
As a matter of fact the '07 FRPP catalog doesn't have the GT40 Y303s listed anymore.
Ford Explorer intake, FMS Y303 heads, BBK E/L headers, Pypes catted X-pipe, MAC U/D pulleys, Ebay CAI, PP SFI dampner, FMS wires........
is that your up-to-date mod list? any dyno numbers or track times?
about the thumpers: so i take it you like them? do you think they would work well with the following combo ( different cam...that stage 2 prob wont work? ):
here is what i have :
TFS street heat upper and lower
TFS 2001 cam
FMS lifters ( used very low miles )
SVO elbow
BBK 70mm throttle body
PRO-M 75mm mass air ( calibrated for 24's )
FMS 24# injectors
Aeromotive afpr
Walbro 190 pump
FMS balancer ( non sfi )
FMS lifter spider
FMS 5 quart pan/pickup
FMS timing set
A stage two cam will work but unless you plan to tune with a chip or tuning device I would pick a cam more suited to the 94-95 EEC. See the sticky for examples. Or, you could go custom cam but that cost $$$.
If your current lifters aren't in bad shape no need to spend money on another set.
The stock spider will work fine. It just keeps the lifters from turning in place.
The SVO elbow is overpriced new. You can get a Professional Products for less money. Also, I believe the SVO version is only 65mm. You'd have to enlarge the opening for a 70mm TB.
The larger oil pan is definately something I would do if the motor is out of the car. Until then it could wait.
The balancer is a good idea. The stock unit is not good at all.
The TB, injectors and MAF are debatable at this point. I say bolt on the H/C/I and then see if you need the rest.
Yes, my mod list is correct. Stock catback and rocker arms are getting replaced soon with a Pypes catback and Crane (Cobra) 1.7:1 roller rockers. Still running the stock cam, TB, MAF, fuel pump and injectors. No signs of a lean condition. And, so far, no need for a chip or tuning device.
The track is my dyno and the numbers are at the bottom of my sig.
Using online calculators and assuming a weight of 3500lbs with me in the car I should be around 250rwhp at current elevation. Approximately 270rwhp at sea level.
I see from your other threads that you are staying with the stock short block and the list of parts is what you have already.
Go with the thumpers if you can't wait to save up for aluminum heads.
Don't worry about the elbow. You can make it work with a metal file.
