New old dude looking to buy a new Mustang

Hey to all! Hope I've put this post in its proper spot. If not I am sure someone will let me know

Gittin' the itch for a new Mustang. Been a Ford guy for many years, especially trucks. The latest version chased me away. I've never gotten used to the gigantic box they are using now.

Anyway, I expect to get a new Roush 427R (I hope I can take the big sticker off the side) or a GT500 (if I can find a dealer that will sell for no more than MSRP).

I'll be lurking seeing what everyone thinks of my options and hopefully have one in a couple months.

I just sold a #'s matching SS396 Chevelle (it had 2 engines - the original 396 and a 496 that was in the car). Although a blast to horse around with, it was still an old car. I want something new with all the conveniences and reliability. I want something pretty quick that is a little bit unique (the reason for not wanting a GT and stuffing in the SC). My true speed fix is my ZX-14. Still want something in stock configuration that is reasonably quick.

Quite an impressive stable you have there
Since you want something right off the showroom floor that is a very good performer, you can't go wrong with either the Roush or Shelby. The Roush would get the nod in bone stock form as Roush has upgraded the suspension to utilize the power under the hood, whereas the Shelby is more like unbridled power(think back 10 years and the Corvette vs Viper). It has already been proven on a road course that the Stage 3 Roush GT(about 100 less HP)will eat up a bone stock GT500. The one thing that limits the Roush is the advancement of power as it already has the near maxed out 4.6 and SC. The Shelby 5.4 however has the potential to develop well over 100+ more HP! I hear that the Shlebys are all falling down towards MSRP, so that is a great thing! Good luck in your quest and be sure to update us in your purchase

I guess I should also check ou the Saleens. No dealer anywhere close to me though. I saw a Red Flag edition that is in my price range.

Found the car. Didn't take long. Actually I didn't want to buy one this fast. I found out there were only 200 428R's made and I was determined to buy a black one. Once I called Roush and found out the 200 had already been built and shipped, I contacted the SE Roush rep. None in Florida. Found one in Knoxville and bought it over the phone. Now I have to figure out the logistics of getting it (I do want to look it over before signing the papers) home and not dealing with snow/ice or what ever else you Northerners put up with. No pics to share at this point.

Cool deal, must be nice to be able to buy just a high priced car over the phone. When money talks I guess you can locate pretty much anything you want. There's still a few ford GT's lurking around if you wanted something really unique. They look like the old GT-40 and as fast.

I'm with you on the stripe(s). If I had the fortune of getting a Roush, those would be gone the DAY I brought it home. They are as bad as the dealer stickers and dealer plate frame, IMHO.

Well, congratulations on the new Mustang. I'm sure it will bring you lots of happiness!!

Personally, I would have gone with a Shelby. I think they probably perform better and are instant "classics". I am just partial to Shelby because it has roots all the way back to the 60s and Roush/Saleen were products of the 90s.

I would love to see some pictures when you get it.

Ok y'all. Lets not get them all wadded up over nothin'.

Back to the subject. The car I found is a 428R that is Black with matte black stripes. They are very subtle and I can live with them. I just wasn't real happy with the interior of the Shelby and the rims. The Shelby engine has more potential but it also has to make up for the extra 500lbs+/-. The other thing was 200 428R's made vs. 12,000 GT500's or what ever the real # is (a bunch, anyway).
I'll get my location up, didn't see it when I registered. It is DeBary (half way between Orlando and Daytona Beach on I-4).
Should be picking it up Saturday. Driving both ways. I'll be up for about 48 hours straight. Haven't done that in a while. Work Friday, drive up Friday night/Saturday morning, get the car about 9am Satruday and drive home. I'll be OK, a little worried about how my wife will do (I'll let her sleep on the way up).

Sounds like a great car. I'll be excited to see some pics. I like the sound of the matte stripes. Subtle is a good way to go on some Mustangs and they look pretty good.

Also, you make a good point with the limited number of 428Rs versus the abundance of Shelbys.

I ain't gonna lie. Roush makes a damn good stang!

Saleen and Roush were building and racing Mustangs clear back in the 80's and have done so every year since. The same thing Shelby did in the '60s, but for a bunch of years there were no new Shelby Mustangs on the track at all. Therefor Saleen and Roush have way more years with Ford, but all 3 are VERY accomplished and established with the Mustang.
It has also been proven that stock for stock the SC Saleen and Roush can bury the GT500 on the road course. The new KR/Super Snake however should put the favor back in Shelby's court, but took more power and the much needed suspension mods.

Didn't know that. I'd love to see the two go head-to-head.

PS- I didn't know Roush and Saleen dated back to the 80s with Ford. Thanks for enlightening me.

The comparo starts at about 3 minutes in, but the first 3 minutes is definitely worth watching as well Don't pay attention to what he says about the Shelby's powerplant as he says it's a 4.6 with a larger SC than the Roush
