My C4 in my 66 mustang has been sitting for 10 years. I just got my Stang on the road after I purchased it 4 years ago. The only issue it has is it does not go into 3rd gear. A complete rebuild could cost around $700 and a rebuilt TCI from SummitRacing goes for $700 shipped?

What have you guys done in the past?

Thanks.

no experience with the TCI, but I'd give it a shot. Make sure you get a year that is not a cruiseomatic. I did not like the cruise o matic. Rebuilds & shift kits didn't act right in mine.

I dont know about TCI but i just got a Performance Automatics and it is awesome. I know most people dont need a tranny that can withstand 450hp but its nice to know you have that insurance. On a side note, with the aftermarket transmissions you do have to order a aftermarket shifter as well, just to let you know. anyways, good luck!

I just called TCI and even their's from Summit is a rebuilt. They said you'll also need a new convertor because of different numbered splines that they use.

I think I'm going to see if I can just get mine fixed without a complete rebuild.

I'll let you know how I make out.

Thanks.

Well I run a GER Pro-Street C-4 (which I DON'T recommend) and it was a HUGE improvement over the stock stuff. I have the factory cruise-o-matic I pulled out of my 66' that has a Hughes race rebuild w/kevlar bands and a B&M shift kit for sale. The only thing about the factory stuff is it shifts to third by itself.

26 spline to be exact. i had that same problem, just had to order a new tc. what kinda motor do you have? i tried a rebuilt unit with my hot little 302 and killed that trans. so i opted for a brand new PA one

Performance Automatic has a kit which will allow the use of the original Mustang shifter
