New Radiator, could still be hot?

i just bought a 2 core (1 inch) aluminum radiator from Northern, also a shroud/electric fan (14 inch 1550 cfm) combo that bolts directly to the radiator. It holds pretty steady at 190 degrees. Is that a normal operating temperature?

also, can i adjust timing to lower the temperature? Which direction and how much?

It depends on what temp thermostat you are running and what the ambient temp is,if you are going down the highway or at idle. Either way I would be very happy w/190.

So would I. Make sure to run a fan shroud so as to maximize the cooling. So many people chuck fan shroulds and end up spending more money than needed with remedial equipement. Also, a properly working fan clutch will make the systems work wonders.

timing that is too retarded will sometimes run a little hotter, but usually not much unless something is really out of whack. if it runs fine, try advancing it a bit and see if anything gets better. if not, set it back

190 is really good, Your fan cfms are on the low side, I run a Howe aluminum radiator and a flexlite 2700 cfm fan, my 351 windsor runs at 195 all day long on the hottest days, I also use water wetter with my water/antifreeze

If your temps are fine when driving at 30 mph or higher, then your radiator is just fine. If your temps creep up when sitting in traffic, then it is your fan. I had the same problem. Temps were fine when driving but the car overheated at idle. The culprit was my flex-a-lite 110 fan pulling all of 1250 cfm. The solution was a Flex-a-lite 118 LowBoy pulling 2500 cfm. Same radiator (generic alum. radiator made by Griffin) but different result.
