traded my 97civic(aka my stolen car experience)
for this
119k 95 gt,Auto---5.0. let the Pics do the talking

immediate needs,besides the paper work which i'm concerned about.
he gave me a open title, he never had the car in his name so its in the previous(whom is the original since 95 owner). its signed. no dates,price etc. i just got to feel in the blanks. but its a duplicate. its an actual title but it says duplicate. will i be ok???

mechanically its all there, going to need a new top, only for the rear glass window.
and the aode leaks.and act a little weird so i was getting a lil tranny steam.
but no rust, im the 2nd,technically third owner, the other guy just bought it to trade/sell thats why he never put it in his name. so i figure a good used aode 250-400.00, new lines and etc plus a top uknown$$$$, im going to have a clean DD. everything is there leather boot/cover when top is down,manuals,, etc....

Why in gods name did you give the guy a penny before you knew whether or not it was on the up and up?

+1, title problems suck. in arizona that would never happen. it needs to be notorized before the mvd will accept it. Plus, they are very skepical over the name and date not matching fully. good luck though. maybe in florida they will just over look it.


what did you pay for it? was it a trade? how much on the trade in and cash?

ok wait now i'm scared....

the title was signed over by the original owner/seller mike ****, but the guy i traded was named tim, he never wrote his name on the title nor had it re-registred or insured it sat in his garage he planned on selling it(to trade or whatever in his favor), and just handed it over to me.
I signed mine over and we shook hands. I asked him why it said duplicate, he said cause mike couldn't find the title so he got a duplicate and then gave it to Tim signed....it actually says previous issue 05/08/95
and then
date of issue:10/28/08

the signature is there and the print looks nothing like the name printed above(typed). the owners print looks worse then his signature.....im f'ckd

i emailed the guy who traded me,and if he screws me (after i find out the dmv wont title transfer or whatever) what would be the next plan of action

someone want to run a vin? how do i check up the title

Where on the title does it say duplicate.

I am just pulled the title for my 93 and since I live in FL as well I can check mine to see if it is on mine. Mine has a date of issue of 6/27/2003 and the previous date of issue is also on mine, 5/21/2003.

Since there is no date or price on it you should just be able to write in the date and price, just make sure you use a pen that has the same color ink. That is what I did with one of my Mustangs. That was about 15 years ago so I don't know if things have changed.

I say take it down and try to get the title transferred and see how it goes. I wouldn't worry too much about it now that you have the car unless you have problems. No point in getting yourself all worked up until you have some probs.

RYC's advice is dead on. I live in Fla too and I bought a Jeep from my friend accross the road and they lost the original title and had to go to the Tag Agengy to get a new one and all she did was supply a drivers license and got a new duplicate title made right there for 28 bucks. Florida is VERY lax about title's and such so as long as you have a title your golden!

yeah im crossing fingers and praying, the title looks clean and clear, the only problem is the guys print and signature is not even legible at all... thats it, eveything was open so i put a selling price of 200 and wrote my name and signed it and wrote down the date sold as 11/1/08....im ok, as long as they say that the name doest match the print, which in my opinion it really does not!

Why in the world would you put $200 dollars on the title when you traded the civic for this mustang. You know that in Florida you can trade one car for another right? You can put TRADE on the title as long as your trade a car for a car. Otherwise you can put GIFT. Either way you don't have to pay TAX. Talk to the person at the dmv and tell them you traded your car for this one. Why give the state money they don't deserve.

alright well you scared me some more, I'm about 75% confident its going to go smooth

i added a 2 to make it 2200 and i cant to nothing else, other wise they will say the selling price look tampered and make me go nuts for a bill of sale, im going up there 8am sharp! dressed decent have a clean check ready for the fees and cross my fingers....

thanks for all you listening to my vent,its been driving me crazy.....

btw the giy who jumped(gave the open title over) says he has the previous owners/ the registred owners contact info

good luck and let us know how it goes. if you have the prior two owners contact info it should go rather smoothly for you. worst case you have to chase someone down for a signature.

A Duplicate title is a replacement for the lost original. No worries there.

ok well it went pretty smooth.
the lady looked a little hesitant at the signature/print, but i guess who cares when you have the title.
next time i do bill of sale and something called a form of selling that way my car cant be open in my name(live and learn).

im glad i posted this though,cause you guys persuaded me into raising the price to 2200 from 200.00 and she did say well "only 2200 for a mustang gt" which is really about fair to a stang guy, but i guess people do recognize mustangs, my civic i put down 500.00 and i think the lady though i was getting ripped! lol....

When my brother bought his 89 he tried to cheap out on the tax. They said that what was on the title was too low and the went off a chart, kinda like a blue book value or something, and they ended up valuing it at more than what he paid for it. So he had to pay more tax then if he had put down the actual purchase price.
