This makes my 8th Mustang and my 1st Saleen. I recently purchased a '89 Saleen Convertible #332 with a Vortech Supercharger. The car is in need of a good cleaning and lots of TLC. I bought it as a project car for my kids and I to work on.

There are things I need for this semi-restoration project:

Where can I find these parts?

Bumber number 332 needs replaced
New sticker kit
New shifter bezel Saleen plaque

Where can I go to find out more about the cars history? I would like to know what Saleen put on it from the factory. Also I have Saleen Speedline 17" wheels on it now, are these the factory wheels? or upgraded thru the years

Thanks in advavce

Nice car. You must be in So.Cal. That was a Camarillo car if I'm not mistaken. I think the interior is pretty good also. First things first.
Bumper numbers and decals from Chicanesport.com
Ask for Joe. If he does not have the stripes, talk to Mark at Performanceautosport.com He is in Virginia though. The console plaque you can only order from Saleen direct and will take anywhere from 3-6 months. (average) Of course you can get all of these items from Saleen but they may not have in stock. Even bumper numbers. Leave a message for Liz after lunch time pacific coast time. Make sure you have your vin number with you and proof of ownership. i don't have Brad's book handy. Someone will chime in. It will list what your car came from the factory. Anything more you will need to get from Liz at Saleen. Those 17" Speedlines are gems. Hold on to them if they spin true. They are sought after.
Your car came with 16" ARE 5 spoke wheels, grey with a polished lip. Ley me know if you want a set for your resto. That's a nice car with a blower.
Enjoy it in good health.

Nice find!

Marcus beat me to most everything I would have said.

The side stripes on the car look like they are the 90-93 "SC" stripes. The OE ones would have been the "9 Stripe" design along the bottom of the car. That is unless Saleen was out of them that day, and would have used a set of left over "3 Stripe" decals from the 87-88 years.

Have fun with your project!

When you get a chance, you should check out The Saleen Club of America to meet more Saleen folks and have even more fun :)

Ted, 80% worse condition??? Give him some credit, he washed the car at least once a year. :D For a car with 175,000 miles on it, it drove smooth as silk......Anyways, getting back to the topic on hand. All three above answered pretty much every question you had. If Marcus is correct and you are in SoCal. Check out our website and come to one of local events (something Marcus hasn't done yet :bang: ) Just playin Marcus, your probably even busier then me at work. We'll have an event or two scheduled for January if you are interested.....oh yeah, nice ride too!!!!

More like Ted washed it once a year when he felt sorry for it- LOL

So smooth Robert didn't even notice it had 187,000 miles on it :)

Back to the topic... I got my stripes for my '85 Saleen from Mark, and there were no problems. Got a few of the other decals as well for the sorta-resto "Project #69" :)

QUOTE]

The car did come from So.Cal. I bought it thru a bank that repo'd it off ebay. What is a "Camarillo car"? The interior was decent but in need of some serious cleaning. The entire interior is out of the car and getting cleaned piece-by-piece. The seats were sent out to get professionally cleaned and in fact did clean up quite nice as well as the door panels.

I have new carpet and tail lights coming this week as well as other odds and end pieces. After the interior is done the motor will be pulled and cleaned. I drove the car back from California and was getting roughly 23-24 MPG, which I was impressed with. I never had a 5.0 have this good of gas mileage.

Maintanence, Maintanence, Maintanence! This car was NOT maintained. Every aspect of the car was neglected but I must say it's still mechanically sound!! Go figure  This little 302 seems to be bullitt proof.

Any info on this car would be greatly appriciated. I would like to know what gear ratio came in it? How did Saleen pull these cars off the line? with 2.73's, 3.08's or 3.27's and then upgrade to 3.55's???

Thanks again. I have plenty more questions and the experts are obviously here, so I'll hold off a little not to bog you guys down with my questions.

BTW, this car reminds me of Corey's in Everett, WA.

Ok, ok. Robert you do have a point. I promise I will attend at least one get together in Jan. 05. I'll keep looking for a post. People are still buying like crazy since the interest rates are still so low.
No hidden secret message in "Camarillo car." I remember that car being on Ebay a month ago and that was the location of the seller (bank or not) do not know. Also, the location in those pictures look vaguely familliar like somewhere past Thousand Oaks. Camarillo is just down the 101.
The 3.55 ring and pinion was an option on the fox body cars. Mine came with 3.55's from Saleen. I think the kid who I sold my car to is the one with his name in the registry in the book. Damn. Oh well, I did manage to buy my original car back from him though.
You car did not come with that blower. Someone here has the Brad Bowling book handy, Sal does for sure. Just have someone find your car in there and it will tell you if your car came with 3.55's or not. If not then it most likely has 3.27's??? I believe the 3.08's were automatic tranni cars? Oh yea, Mike is on it. There is no way your car came with the chevron side stripes. They were most likely added by the previous owner. Once again, nice car. Enjoy.

OK, went and got the book off the shelf...

You are going to be the 4th+ owner. If I had to guess you are the 5th, and I'm guessing #4 was not listed if it was a CA car. #3 is from UT.

Last 3 of the VIN: 654

It came with a Black Top from the factory.

It came with the Saleen "Dash Nameplate". (The little "S" badge on the dash wherever they stuck it that day).

Those are the only things listed.

That means the SC was added by a prior owner, or the dealership.

It did NOT come with 3.55 gears. I would say 3:08 was the OE on 5 speed cars. I think the Auto Trans cars came with 3:27 OE, and the book does not have you down as an AT car.

It is not a "stripe delete" so it left Saleen with the 9 or the 3 stripes on it.

Hope that helps get you started :)

I have the last 3 of my VIN showing 557. Are you sure about 654 for number 332?

I did not know you moved out of state. I remember you from the Washington area posts, etc.

If that car is like Corey's 88 saleen, sounds like your going to be a busy person. Should be fun though.

3.08 gears are what you probably have. BTW, Some '89 saleens came with the tri stripe (3 stipe colors on the bottom portion of the ground effects) but most of these cars were early production model run. Most cars in the 200's or further had the S logo near the rear tire on the ground effects.

congrads and good luck with it

Yup, I moved 2 months ago to the lovely brown state of Texas. I wouldn't say this car isn't as bad as Corey's. It just needs some much needed attention. This Saleen was a late '88 run. If you have pictures of you stripes I would love to see it. After the motor gets pulled, I'm trailering this bad boy to the body shop to get stripped and repainted.

Thanks

Yea, I have the book, but looks like Mike was quicker then I on the draw. Nice car. I plan on getting a Fox body some day. I had an 87 GT that I did everything in the book (short of a S/C) to. I'd really love the SA-10 that pops up on the log-in for the saleenchat site. That black and yellow is killer!! Anyone know who owns that and if they are willing to part with it? I also want an S351 before I die! All I have to do is talk the wife into a smaller house and I'm there (yea right!!).

Have fun with the car. It looks like a fun project to me, especially if it is going to be a family affair. Sounds like you're in the process of bringing the kids up right!

Sorry about that!!!

All the info I posted except that was from the correct car, I wrote down the wrong VIN info before typing it up.

Your car, 89-0332 shows the last three of the VIN as 557 as you wrote.

Again, sorry about that.

Mark's site has pictures of the different stripe kits. http://performanceautosport.com
