Well guys I currently own a 2001 GT that I really enjoy and has a lot of sentimental value with me. Anyway the car as 85,000 miles on it and I'd love to buy a new Mustang. The problem is that while I really like the new mustangs at the same time theres things that I don't like about them.

So my question is I can easily afford one, but how do you guys all like your 05+ stangs? Or should I just hold on to the one that I have. It's a 01 True blue GT with flows, 18 cobra R's Mach 1 hood an shaker and a MGW short throw.

Thanks for your opinions guys! :SNSign:

I had a '00 GT that I sold nearly 3 years ago. I bought my '06 last month...I love the new one so much more than the previous one...you can't go wrong.

I never drove a 01 so I can't give you a fair comparison answer. I picked up my 05 GT vert used, and I can tell you that I really enjoy it.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I'm in the exact same dilemma, in fact I was going to start my own poll with the same question.

I have the opportunity to sell my car (with 49k miles) and get an '07 GT/CS. I too have alot of sentimental value with my car and it's hard for me to see it go, but I don't know if I should pass up the opportunity.

I test drove a Vista Blue California Special a week ago and really enjoyed it, but I put a little work into my car to get it where I want it and I don't know if I want to start over again, although I know it'd be a fun project.

So, I guess you guys can help us both out and try to make up our minds (although we're in the 05+ forums so I kind of know which way we'll be swayed ).

Thanks guys.

the S197 is definately the better car. if you have sentimental attachement to the car, then only you can make the proper desicion for yourself.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess we just need to be persuaded to give up a car we're attached to for something that we have to build a new attachment to.

Unless you lost your virginity or had your first born in it, I would say let her go for the new platform. Looks are the only reason I can see someone staying with the other platform, and that's all personal taste.

What about exhaust tone...?

I haven't heard anyone just falling in love with the new setup.

And personally I haven't heard any S197s on the road that sound as mean as a 32V Mach1/Cobra with proper exhaust.

Heck even most 2V GTs with proper exhaust sound awesome.

The key thing about sound waves is that the result at your ear is the sum of all the sound waves hitting your ear at that time. So what “sounds” good to one enthusiast may not “sound” good to another. Even though you may hear several distinct sources of sound, the pressure waves hitting your eardrum all add together, so your eardrum only feels one pressure at any given moment. – In a nutshell Sound is as individual specific as our genetics.

You have just found one person that fell in love with the new set-up. Your quest is complete.

As for any S197, even moderately modified, sounding as mean as the 32V 4.6L Mach or Cobras, of course not. We are comparing apples and oranges in the engineering world. Since the sound we hear is a true derivative of the exhaust stroke at the point the exhaust valve opens then the Mach and Cobra are the Beethovens of the Mustang world. Their compression stroke and exhaust design inherently produce a hefty sound amplification. No competition where none is needed.

Next time you line up at a light with a 05-07 GT with a modified exhaust, sit at the rear quarter panel, turn down the radio and listen with an unemotional, un-opinionated, analytical ear, you will be surprised what you hear.

As for platform stability, handling, base HP/TQ, break-in capacity and durability, I am happier with this platform than I was my 03 GT or 98 V-6. I went from having 2 ponies in the stable to this single V-6 and each day I slide into this sexy, comfortable and mechanically capable beast, I have no regrets and nothing but smiles. We only live once and regrets tallied at the end of our days should be minimal.

Tallied and recorded in the "Book of Life" as NO regrets.

I can say looks alone is what got me into the S197!!!!! From the instant I saw the show car I was like, "WOW, how do I go about getting one of these things?!?!?!" The moment I saw the SN95...ehhh, it took some time to grow on me. It wasn't until it actually was released and I went to see one in person that I saw how much more aggressive it looked over the 94-98's. I then bought one a few months later. I loved my '00 GT for 4 and a half years before selling it to get a new house built(knowing I WOULD have another Stang in the future). I bought a motorcycle last April to help curb my itch for acceleration and speed from the lack of a Mustang GT. I do love riding it mind you, BUT ever since August 29th of this year I have only ridden the bike once. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS NEW MUSTANG!!!!!!!! I have the Flowmasters on it and it sounds very good to me. Granted I may get an o/r h pipe to help the sound along some. So for me I can't see looks and sound alone of the previous style anywhere near enough for me to keep me out of a S197 at all. In fact, if I still had my '00 on August 28th...IT WOULD HAVE BEEN TRADED FOR THE NEW ONE!!!!!!! I agree with Jenn 100% as far as we only live once...

JUST do IT !!!

What I sold for the S197:

2002 GT Vert
2001 Cobra
1989 LX 5.0 Sport

All three nice cars, but not as fast or nicer then the 07 GT.

Thats my story, so glad we went S197 !

I really liked the style of 2005 mustang because it reminded me of my Grandpa's 1965 fastback.
This is my first ever Mustang, although I have ridden and driven in older mustangs (1965, 1971, 1991 LX 5.0, 1994 Cobra, 1996 GT, 2003 GT), so I may sound a little biased, but I love it.
I've had mine for just over a year and 3 months (@ 11,025 miles) and its been running great and problem free.

I didn't want to get rid of my 2003 350Z so I bought the Mustang and kept the Z. I love 'em both.

I can't vote twice so just keep the 01 GT and buy the 07 GT. Then, you'll have both and be happy. You only live once so what the hell.
Thats what I told myself.

I had no intention of replacing my 96 Cobra convertible. That all changed last summer when WW (Wonderful Wife) and I flew to a wedding and rented a new Mustang for the weekend. It was a base coupe w/ a V-6. After living with the rental car for a total of 3 days, we really liked the changes that were made to the car over the 96. We had owned a 95 GT Convertible before the 96.
If you're not sure if you're ready to take the plunge, why not rent one for a few days? It will be worth the $$ to get a perspective of what it's going to be to live with the car over the long haul; much better that you'd be able to get on a test drive. The only negative is that I'm not sure that you'll be able to find a GT to rent.

Marine One has a very good point...rent at least the 6er to get some feel for the new platform. I know I was originaly looking at getting a Ford 500 as my next car so what I did was rent one for a week and drove it 1200+ miles on a round trip to Toledo, OH from VA. That way I could get a great feel for the car on all types of roads/weather. It was a very comfortable car with LOTS of room. It did meet the mpg estimates for highway which I thought was great. Figures I bought a new GT for near the same price as the 500...I went big time for form over function and I couldn't be happier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for all the comments and opinions so far guys. I think I might go drive a few this week end and see what I want to do. Either way I need to pay off the 01 before I buy a new one. So it might take a couple of months to get one. Well see.

Thanks.

The only thing I sold to get my S197 was the ablilty to hand my boss a Johnny Paycheck 8 track and a little tube of Vasoline. Shove nothing, I can't get by for less somewhere else and you know it. Still no one can wipe the grin off my face. Sure I have a Fox sitting in the garage and thousands in parts I'll never get around to installing. So what, I've got a new mistress and she demands parts. All I can do is smile and say "Yes dear."
