New Tires on Old rims

I want to put some new rubber on my stock 17X8 rims. I was more then a little upset when I found out that we got such skinny rubber from Ford. So my question is what is the widest tire I can squeeze under my car that is lowered by 1 inch? I worry about rubbing issues and keeping all four the same size so I can rotate them. Because I have a bad habit of getting bored at stop lights and rotating just the rear

well as far as the widest tire you can go. i think the wheel will limit you before you rub on the car.... i believe that on a 8" wide wheel you can only go with a 275 max tread width

Can we really run 275's on the front and still turn the wheels lock to lock?

yessir. i run 275's on the front and they dont hit or rub. but i think thats the biggest you can go

It tramlines a bit more but other than that, not really. Obviously, it's the extra weight as well as the width.

since i like the look of the bullit rims, i am going to keep the stock 17's/tires on front and go with some DD 18x10 on back with silver finish. I have seen this before an it looks good. Ideally i would have 18x9 on front but it seems like i could save the money buying new rims for the back only. I'm thinkin some 285 40's.

I would go that route if I had bullits. Lucky

darn. that would have been nice. good luck. 275 is too big for a 17x8. it will fit, but not that great. 255 is what i would do just like you said. 275 is 20 mm or about 4/5ths an inch wider. 25.4 mm= 1 inch

remember that the DD bullit replicas are usually the SN95 style bullit wheel. the spokes are curved differently.

Good point. You wont notice hardly at all with the DD versus stock design. i have seen it like this and is almost unrecognizable.

I have a set of Toyo 255/45/17's Proxes on my stang.
The width is good. Still a lot of fender clearance.

However, my car is not lowered..... so it has a slight 4X4 look.
Ford Racing springs are on the way!!!!!
