NEW TKO 500 GRINDS IN 4TH AND REVERSE!!

4th gear.... I don't know.

Reverse is easy. It doesn't have synchros, so it will grind every time if you try to put it into reverse right away. The trick it to put it into 5th first, then come back into reverse, it won't grind at all if you do it this way.

Damn 400??? (shoulda been a mechanic...sigh) Dude a couple things could be wrong. First of course, bad tranny, but I doubt it. If I remember right, 4th is directly on the shaft. That could mean the input shaft is not seated or the pilot bearing is shot. I would think pilot bearing before I thought bad tranny in this case. IN ANY CASE, take that $hit back to the mechanic and tell them the problem in case it was their fault. You need to get to the bottom of it, whether it was the mechanic's fault or the manufacturer's fault so you can get it fixed.

I've been taking it real easy and driving it like a granny in stop and go traffic. I noticed the grind on the highway after 500 total city and a few highway miles.

I don't think it's GM Syncromesh. Might that stop the grinding in 4th?

if your clutch isnt hooked up right can that cause it to grind if it isnt engaging right?
