Progress Thread New To Me 96 Gt And A Couple Of Questions

Removed the cams earlier with that plan of putting them in the heads iv got now AND THEN THIS

Its much much worse in person

I was worried that with the cam journals so badly scorn that the heads would be useless but after doing some reading I guess its not uncommon to have them bored out to except bearings apparently even Ford dose it when remaning motors even if they don't need it...

The cams on the other hand well the driver side cam anyway is done

Took a small brake from the Mustang to do other things but used my taxes to finally replace the wornout suspension...

Nothing exotic just Koni Street shocks #8750-1027 front and #8050-1050 rear, Ford Racing C-springs #M-5300-C, Energy Suspension coil isolators #4-6102G front and #4-6101G rear, Lakewood traction bars #21900, and Lakewood upper rear control arms #20152

BEFORE

Here's the stock 250,000 mile front suspension

I know the suspension was shot back when I got the car but you know how you get use to things and just don't think about it WELL both front coils were rusted in 2 at the bottom isolators...the rust had mixed with salt and made a rust mortar so the peace on the coils that rusted off had pretty much become one with the A-arms but after some time with a pry bar and a hammer they learned the true meaning of Christmas and came out...and if that was not bad enough the pass side coil had also snapped at the top so my 2 front coils come out in 5 peaces LOL
All back together

Here's the stock 250,000 mile rear suspension

The rear was more of the same with the rear sway bar having rusted and snapped in 2 on the pass side the pass side quad shock mount was about to be ripped out of the frame rail and the 4 lower control arm bolts had all rusted into the sleeves and wouldn't come out...

AFTER

ALL IN ALL it went pretty much as expected the front coils rusting in 2 kinda threw me and the mounts for the traction bars needed to be massaged a little but the car rides so so much better....

Sorry I haven't been on in a while, just bought a house so it's keeping me busy.

Be sure to measure the cam lobes vs. your 96gt's original ones. PI cams are the same duration but more lift. I know the pictures are sometimes decieving online, but I'm not completely certain those truck heads in your pictures are actually PI heads. They should be stamped "PI" somewhere on them. You could also google the part numbers on the cams/heads to verify PI or NPI if you cant readily measure both sets of cams to compare. I'd hate to see you change heads for what you've already got. Might also be better off just replacing that one damaged head rather than fixing it, machine work is expensive. Find a 2001+ crown vic/marquis. For some reason they jack up the prices on anything that says "mustang" on it at junk yards. The vics are the same heads though. For all that work of changing heads, I'd just save for an explorer engine and be done with it. Maybe that's just me.

I see your suspension is as bad as mine was/is. My 96GT came with original 160k+ mile completely shot shocks/struts, made into an even worse ride by 4 cut factory springs, with all 8 of the rubber insulators removed/destroyed. I've got most of it fixed now, though I still need front springs. It's amazing what stupid stuff people will do and think things will be ok. Keep up the good work. It's nice making improvements you can notice, even if it's just getting back to stock for now.

There PI heads....When I took them pics I was just trying to show the damage and neglect... And I'm not going to use the cams that came with the heads there just in to bad shape but the heads were free so as long as it only cost so much to repair them it should even itself out thats why I'm planing on talking to the guy at the machine shop I go to before I do anything to the heads

Scored a PI intake and cams off a 09 Vic with only 29,000 miles

I was hoping to be able to use the Dorman cooland crossover on the new PI intake so I wouldn't have to get them drilled and taped but no luck there not even close so I'll be calling the machine shop in the morning

I also decided after I get the intake and cams installed to get the thing dyno tuned so I know where shes at plus get rid of that generic SCT tune and get something more tailored to the car...

Me and a buddy pulled an all-nighter and installed the PI cams into my Mustang......I didn't take many pics because it was a cold midnight job and we were in a hurry BUT

AND HOW THE HELL DOSE THIS EVEN HAPPEN????

The valve cover gaskets are clearly to big???

So last week I finally got to do the PI intake swap on my car

Back from the machine shop with the 2 coolant sensors drilled and taped

Iv been wanting to do this pretty much sins I got the car so its a good feeling to have finally gotten it done...

I also finally broke down and started fixing the dent in the bumper that my buddy gave me

SO I haven't really done anything to the Mustang in fact for a moment I thought she was going to need a new motor but seems fine except for some issues with the PCV system... Its kinda been sitting because I got my hands on a 02 WRX so Iv been driving that but did finally got the Ford Racing clutch cable #M-7553-D302 and AutoMeter gauge pod #10004 Iv also got 2 front o2 sensors on order...

So I changed out the clutch cable and quadrant out last night

Here's the stock clutch cable you can kinda see why it needed to be changed

Surprisingly someone already changed the clutch quadrant out before

The hardiest thing was trying to find a bolt laying around that would fit the bracket on the clutch cable someone at some point ripped the bolt right out the frame rail so I had to look high and low to find something that would work...
