Hey, Just sold my Fox last month and bought a 2000 GT. I have a few simple questions for now and probably many more as time goes by.

1. The car is a 5spd. What transmission do I have? Want to get a MGW shifter but dont know which one.

2. How do I know if the engine is a PI or not?

3. What is a good gear for the 4.6? Mostly street driven, just looking for more accelleration.

Im sure Ill think of others, but thats a start.

Thanks

pretty sure you have a t-45 in your gt someone will chime in and tell you for sure because i cant remember when they switched to the tr3650. you also have a PI engine ford started making them in 99.

when you go to the mgw site it will give you info to help you get the wright shifter.

mods: for acceleration get a handheld tuner like sct diablo or sniper tuning. also 3.73 will help too. a plemum TB and drop in k&n filter will help also.

You've got the T-45, they switch to the 3650 mid-way through the 01 model.

As stated, it has PI intake, heads and cams.

Since you've got the 01 IRS I'm assuming it has the 3.55s instead of the 3.27s that were stock in the 2000 SRA. If you're looking for more I say step up to the 4.10s. I personally was happy with the jump from 3.27 to 3.55 when I swapped in an 03 Cobra IRS but I do a lot of highway driving.

:stupid: I like the 3.73's too, thats what I have. Most people will say go 4.10, they will accelerate the car quicker but highway crusing will be at higher RPMs. You will love the MGW, best shifter in the world IMO thats why I have one of thoes too:nice:

Man, you guys reply fast.

Not sure of the gear ratio, the guy I bought it from said 3.27's I was thinking of going 3.73 or 3.90. I had 4.10's in my AOD fox and they were great in the city, but on the highway, it got annoying. Of course I dont know what the difference in OD gears is between the AOD and the T45 plus the Fox had 16's and this one has 17's

I have only heard great things about MGW, thats why I am going that route also. I found the stock shifter to be a little on the notchy and sloppy side.

Got a K&N drop in now, looking at a handheld tuner. I have professional tuners using Diablo and SCT software within 10miles so I will probably chose one of those. I am leaning towards the SCT livewire right now, but at 570.00 its pretty pricey.

Where exactly is Converse?:shrug:

I run a 3.73 in my auto car and could even see myself running a 3.90, but I doubt i'd take the step to 4.10s. I'm pretty happy with my gear selection.

Looks like you're right, or at least you were told correctly. I've been looking around and all the information I can find shows the final drive ratio of 3.27 for the 99-01 Cobra, it looks like it was switched to 3.55 for the 03-04. I thought they switched to 3.55 when they brought in the IRS.

Overdrive is the same (0.67) in the AOD and the T45, so your gear experiences as-related to RPMs will hold about the same. The 17" wheels will help some, but not all that much. I would recommend the 3.73s based on your past experiences with 4.10s.

The MGW is a lot "notchier" than the stock shifter. It "snaps" into gear, so it is much more crisp than the stock one, and of course the throws are a lot shorter. Give it some time though, it does work itself out and get much smoother.

i know the t-45 final drive is equal to the 4R70W but i dunno about the AOD. And his experiance shouldn't be the same, modular make most thier power up top - so high revs will be a lot different i.e. useful past 2nd gear. Many say:
5.0 __4.6__4V 4.6
3.55=3.73=3.90
3.73=3.90=4.10
3.90=4.10=4.30
4.10=4.30=4.56

I don't buy that chart for a second, unless you're talking about drag strip performance only. To quote the man:

The RPMs will be the same on the highway since the OD gear ratio is the same in both transmissions. I doubt it "got annoying" because of the power/acceleration (because that's universally great :)) but because of the high RPMs it was turning. I agree and wouldn't personally ever go over 3.73s in a car I was going to do over 50% highway driving in for that very reason.

I'm not talking highway noise, im talking what the engine's designed for

I understand, I just think the OP was talking about highway noise and RPMs it was turning at those speeds. Everyone likes the increased acceleration from gears, and the steeper gears do help the modulars with their lack of low end torque. At highway speeds, where the OP said he didn't care for the 4.10s in his AOD, he'll be spinning the same RPMs in his modular so I recommended the 3.73s.

That chart is a good guide when looking strictly at performance, but doesn't take into account real world driving situations, IMHO.

This is a great statement and one I wish I would have followed with my Fox, Adding the 4.10's and the 3200 stall and the V1 Vortech was great fun when I got on it. But I soon realized that "getting on it" was only about 10% of my total driving. The other 90% quickly became unenjoyable with the sluggish part throttle accelleration of the stall, The higher RPMs on the highway from the 4.10's and the noise at idle from the Vortech.

That why this time around, I plan on focusing more on the day to day aspect of the car rather than "total power" thing.

A few bolt-ons, some gears, a short throw shifter, stuff like that. If the power bug does bite me again, Im thinking a KB and calling it a day but thats waaayyyyyyy down the road if at all.

Thanks again for all the replys :SNSign:
