Hello all, I have been reading the board for a few weeks now and it appears that there is a lot of good knowledge here. Back in April I purchased a 65 coupe, prarie bronze A code. I got the car at a good price from a friend who's family has owned the car since 1980. Car was parked in 97 and has been in a garage since. I have already stripped the car down quite a bit and plan on a full restore to original. Here are picts of the car and the progress I have made so far.

I have a few questions that if anyone would answer I would appriecate it.
1. my friend told me the engine was rebuilt in the mid 80's. Being that this is an early 65 it should have a black block and gold valve covers. When they got it back, block was blue and had aftermarket valve covers. Question is, is there anyway to tell if this is a 289 4v motor? any markings on the heads? He did not know if the engine was swapped or just painted incorrectly.

2. With this floor pan rust, should I just replace toe pans or toe pans and short front floor pan?

Thanks for the info and sorry for the long post.

1. I THINK you can tell those specifics about your engine through the casting number on the block found behind the starter. How to decode anything after the first four digits of the number, I do not know.

2. Hard to tell how deep the rust goes on the rest of the floorboard, but personally I'd replace the whole thing to be safe. Last time I checked those short floors only go for about $25 a pop.

Good luck with the project and welcome to Stangnet.
