New Wheels - Width

After seeing some of the nice aftermarket wheels some of our members have put on their cars, I'm seriously considering replacing the OE wheels on my '00 GT. I have just installed a new set of 245/45/17 Eagle Responsedge tires on the OE wheels on my car. I believe the OE 17" wheels are 8" wide but a lot of the aftermarket wheels come in a 9" width (and larger). My question is, will my 245/45/17 tires fit on the 9" wide wheels without any potential problems or should I stick to the OE size?

no, dont put the 245's on a 9" wheel, you will have no rim protection at all
and they will look bad. You can put 255's on a 9" wheels as I have done before.
The tire will be flat to the rim. But 275's is what you really want IMO.

theyll fit but theyll look like crap,i have stock 245s on my 17x9s and i hate em..but dont have cash rite now to swap to a 275

Thanks again for your reply. I'm guessing that my OE wheels on my '00 GT are 8". Am I right? After just buying the 4 245/45/17's I can't afford to change wheel sizes yet.

i run 245's on my 17x8's in front and 255's on the rear 17x9's. when they came discount tire had them reversed and it looked ridiculous. you'd have to work hella hard to make a 245 fit on a 9" rim and it'll look queer as all get out.
