As some of you followed over in 5.0 Tech, my coil recently got no spark. I though of everything until my neighbor remover the distributor cap and told me to crank the motor. Well the distributor gear was partially stipped and the teeth looked like razor blades (AKA not good). I could only imagine what the cam gear looks like or what those metal peices will do to my motor (I also had a problem with 0 oil pressure and a fail oil pump). I was just gunna get rid of the car, but since it has a HUGE list of parts done to it, and a new engine was ont he to do list, Ill just make it a winter project. Plus I dont think I could ever get rid of my baby (seems like everyone and there mother wants a black notch, huh?).

I figure Ill strip the engine bay, do any wire hiding, paitning, cleaning or replacing that I need to do. Then the Battery will be relocated, then finally after Christmas when I have some cash Ill get a cheap motor from somewhere and put a cam in it. Im willing to do all of this during a Northeastern winter, W/O a garage. Am I crazy or dedicated? Do you think I should sell the car and make it someone else's headache?

i'd say keep it. i couldnt imagine getting rid of my car. i had an option to trade my car for a 347 stroke'd red notch with a 6 point cage, but the interior was pretty rough, and the motor was on its way out. i kept my car, just because its my baby.

keep it, and find a place to rent a garage, or at least spend some money and get one of those cheap canvas garages to keep the wind off your back.

Me keeping the car now is based solely on my parents and funds. how much (typically) should the machining of my stock block be? I was considering a Federal Mogul engine rebuild kit (forged dish pistons) and a TFS stage 1 cam (about the limit of what I can afford). The kits I were looking at are summit PN's: FEM-MHP171 (332,322,321). I was going to try and keep the Compression ratio low since one day I do want forced induction. I will most likely build it myself, but how much extra do you think the machine shop would charge to assemble the Shortblock? These kits have about 9.14:1 CR with a 58cc head, what do you think they will be with my Y303 heads?

On the other hand, if I do decide to sell the car, should I sell it with the motor needing to be rebuilt (telling the buyer this of course) or should i part the car out then sell cheaply or give the body (straight) to like a racer or someone who wants a project from scratch? what would you do?
