Hello! My name is Kris, and I'm very new to the forum, but not new to owning a Stang.

I have noticed a problem in my steering and need help diagnosing the situation. Every time I turn my wheel slightly to the left or to the right there is a small moaning noise, I have never heard it before and my dad noticed it too when he was driving my car the other day. If any of ya'll have the slightest idea of what it could be and how to fix it your help would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you checked the power steering fluid level?
Does the steering wheel "fight" or "kick back" when you attempt to turn it?

Yes I have checked the fluid levels and it is good, and no it doesn't fight or kick back it just sort of makes a low pitch moaning sound kind of like a "hmmmm"

That seems to be a common issue with ford power steering pumps. If it's an '04, it may be replaceable under warranty.

Is your car still under warranty? If so, have them inspect/replace it. Otherwise, it sounds normal if the fluid is fine and no leaks are evident.

It's just the power steering, not much you really can do. My 2000 moans on every turn, but it doesn't kick back or anything. It's just a Ford PS pump.

Hey guys, sorry I am not quick to responding classes are keeping me busy right now. But I will visit the Ford place here in Sylva and let them look at her. But thank you for your help!!

I'm not quite sure if my car is still under warrenty because I am up at school and live 5 hours away from home, so I she has well over 25,000 miles on her already.

THANKS AGAIN

-kris

Ahh, Sylva, a little piece of God's Country

GO CATAMOUNTS

Back on the topic, my wife's '04 V6 had the power steering pump replaced under warranty, without us even asking to have it done, while it was in to have the steering rack bushings replaced. Prior to that it made some noise, but not an unusual amount in my opinion compared to other Fords. Anyway, since it was replaced it has been much quieter so it may be worth checking into if your car is a 2004 model.

Only thing to do in Sylva is to go to Wal-Mart. The one redeeming factor is that there is a Quiznos!
