next on the list...

ok, im up to ignition and a carb. an engine builder here in phoenix told me at least a 950cfm carb for a 408 that will be limited driving on the street and to be sure to go with holley, i guess edelbrock sucks with nitrous (i dont think they have a carb that big anyhow). any other suggestions would be great! as for the distributer im not sure at all. I imagine that msd is the best but it seems like all their distributers require a box (acording to their product description) this is my first stang and engine build so any and all help is great!!
thanks

Grab a Mighty Demon. I am building a 408 stroker and plan on the mighty demon. Heard nothing but good things about their carbs.

Have you been using local shops for parts and service? I am local to you and just starting my restomod project could use pointer on local shops (sorry off topic)

i had my block rebuilt by a guy in phoenix that has a shop set up in his home i can give you his number if you like, he does really good work and is very reasonable. other than that iv been doing it all my self so far and ordering most of my parts from summit or going to lopers. i bought my stroker kit from chp along with a main girdle.

by the way does 950cfm sound about right to you?

the fuel for the nitrous doesn't go thru the carb.
With the vic jr heads and .600 cam, I still think 850 would be plenty. Without the n2o, I'd expect 450-475 hp with good compression maybe, 850 cfm will be plenty.

Honestly I think you better switch engine builders.

950cfm is good for approx 600+hp (before nitrous) and I really doubt your 408 is putting out that kind of HP without a power adder.

Carb's arn't used for nitrous..you do NOT need a larger carb when running N2O. Nitrous should have no effect on the carb. The carb does not supply the extra fuel, and actually breaths LESS air while the N2O is in use.

Seriously... this engine builder really doesn't sound like he knows what he's talking about. I think you should find a new builder.

please note I am not the engine builder, I merely gave my thoughts on the subject. The nitrous stuff was my (aparently horribly wrong enough to be ostracized) assumptions based on my knowledge of nitrous. Thank you for correcting my perception of how the extra fuel is delivered with nitrous.

hehe.. sorry dude. It's perfectly OK for you or I to make a mistake like that...I can see why you might think that way. Big difference is that we're not engine builders.

actually the guy that built my engine and the guy that told me at least 950cfm are 2 different people, my fault i was unclear, but anyway im glad i asked about that so i didnt make a very expensive mistake. and about the distributer, whats my best bet???? msd with box???

with the specs you have listed for your engine i wouldn't even consider NOT running a good distributor and a CD (capacitive discharge) ignition box of some sort. MSD is probably the best bet and they have a lot of options. i would call their tech line and get them to recommend a good complete system for your engine. i'm talking distriutor, coil, wires ignition box and anything else you might need
