I will be leaving it the stock silver. I like the color combo, and that is one part about this car I do not want to change. I will be respraying the silver all the way around the car, as well as replacing the orange stripe in the middle of the mouldings.

Today's progress started out with the whole gang having a meeting of the minds.

Got the stock bumper trimmed at the moulding line, and decided since I will be keeping the front plate mount, I can hide a couple screws to hold the middle of the bumper nice and secure. The 03 bumper is now sliding back behind the moulding line.

As you can see, the sides were just kinda there at this point, but I was making sure I had it sitting at the right level, so when looked at from the side, it isnt too high/low compared to the side skirts.

I cut off the GT front extensions, and notched under them like I did the bumper to allow the Cobra bumper to fit behind them like it does the upper front bumper.

Sorry, didnt snap any pics of the test fit after that point, but it fits pretty well. Once the adhesive arrives, I am going to start in the middle, and only mix a little at a time to slowly work my way around being sure it fits just right. Then I will go back and smother the entire backside for good, using Dave's drywall mesh technique. Then throw a thin coat on the front to make it look like one big bumper again. In the mean time, I started body working the Cobra bumper. The side SN body lines are gone! The plastic is pretty thin after sanding that line out. so I will be adhering a small metal brace behind each side to add back some rigidity.

These pics were taken shortly after I washed it off with the hose. The plastic is smooth, the dark spots are water.

@Davedacarpainter , what do you recommend I put over the top of the raw plastic sides? Should I glaze it, or go straight to high build primer?

No turning back now. Concept looks good. What color are you going to paint it?

The beauty of this all is that I can absolutely turn back. If it turns out looking like shi t, or I mess it up, I just need a new stock bumper (which I already needed before I started), and fender extensions. I havent done any sort of modifying to the fenders or mounting points of the header panel. So far I think I am going to like it, though. Paint will be the stock silver.

It really depends how deep the gouges are. I can't tell by the photo, but it will only add an extra thirty minutes to the repair to glaze them. Better safe than going through another primering. Adhesion promoter, don't forget adhesion promoter.

With my LX fender extensions I can still removed the nose. I'd suggest using 3m tape to adhere the sides of the bumper to the lower fender. If you glue it with panel bonding agent you'll never get the nose off again without destroying something.

The wheel well line isn't dealt with on my car yet. I'm interested to see how you get it done. Great job so far....you're getting it done way faster than me. I like the body line being removed. Nice work !!!

I was considering how to attach the sides for that very reason. Since they basically tuck up under what is left of the GT fender extensions, I think I will 3M tape it to the actual fender as you suggested. Being that I mounted the 03 bumper behind my moulding line on the stock GT bumper, it allows the sides to reach around the fender at the wheel well just right. I will actually be able to put the very top screw right into the middle hole that the GT fender extension used to attach to in the fender well. I will be creating a bracket for the lower part of the bumper. As you know, it does not follow the contour of the fender, so it needs a brace of some sort at the bottom.

Also, I pretty much have my heart set on incorporating the 03 Cobra rear bumper into the equation with an LX exhaust. I am going back to my hook up for a busted up rear bumper this Saturday. I think I have enough confidence to repair what is wrong with it, even though I walked away from it the first time I was there. He is letting me have it for free because it has a hole torn in the side of it, so I cant resist the urge to try. The basic shape of it is still nice, so I think I can save it.

Have you built a jig to put the two pieces of the bumper in yet?

You'll want them to be real stable during the curing process.

Missed this comment. I have decided that I am going to use a few screws to hold it tightly together while the adhesive sets up, then remove all but the two behind the license plate, and fill/smooth the holes.
