I took this afternoon off because it was supposed to be sunny and 55 degrees, which is basically T shirt and shorts weather for me right now. I had 4 hours to myself to get the transmission back in the car, and the exhaust hung. Guess how far I got?
Yup, the flywheel and clutch set up installed. It started off like anything I do. I got the flywheel on and torqued, and realized I forgot the engine plate. Off came the flywheel again.
Then when it came time to torque to the pressure plate bolts, I snugged them with loctite, and when I went to torque the first one to 25 ft lbs, it just spun. Fuggin stripped! Second one, same thing. I had flames coming out of my ears! Instead of pulling it all back off and throwingeverywhere, I stopped and pondered. I was reusing the bolts that came with the engine, and they were 3/4 inch length with lock washers on them. I noticed they were maybe turning half way into the flywheel. I made a trip to home dept and get 1-1/4 inch versions, and boom, they torqued to 25 ft lbs with no problems thank the being that may or may not exist that shall remain nameless (see what I did there @CarMichael Angelo?)!!! I was gonna flip if I had to buy a new flywheel after just installing the friction surface(which cost $60 already). The 1-1/4" bolts barely peek out the backside of the flywheel.
Lastly, the final cause for not getting as far along as I wanted. My ebay tubular intake cover showed up while I was under the car. I shifted focus to scuffing and painting it.
Its not a perfect fit, but pretty nice for a fraction of the cost of the OEM ones listed. Plus, Im not a huge fan of the 5.0 HO emblems that are on the OEM pieces. Its good enough for my not so perfect car. Thats all for today. Transmission install is next, hanging my newly welded up exhaust, and reinstalling the intake. Then I am going to have my custom tail pipes done up! Might be driving this bisch when Spring decides to actually be here for real.
You can thank any "nameless being" that you want,...But it was you that made the decision to get the wrong length bolts in the first place. Then it was you that made the decision to get the right length bolts....So, if it makes you feel better, blame the devil for the first one, and give God credit for the second one.
Only I wonder how the devil managed to get past the "Supreme one" to persuade you to install the short bolts in the first place?

Stumbled on some wheels that struck a cord with me. In high school I had my red/silver GT on turbine wheels, while a friend of mine had a black GT on chrome Cobra Rs. I have always had a soft spot for Cobra Rs, as "played out" as they are. Now if you remember my engine colors, I have used a dark gray on my VC's, and will be using it in other areas as my accent color.
The 2010 GT wheels I bought just dont sit right for me. I really like the rear 18X10s, because they are concave, however the front wheels are so flat, they just seem odd.
All that being said, I have also always like wheels with a lip front and back. So, in you guys' opinion, am I on crack to scoop these up for cheap, toss a mustang center cap on them and run them? They are 18's, so my tires will swap over, and I think they match my color scheme well...
Should be able to sell my 2010 GT style for the same price as the knock off Cobra Rs locally.
I think the back wheels just need to be pushed out half an inch or so. They look to be a little more "tucked" than the fronts in the image.

There was only one set of wheels that I truly lusted for, and was willing to pay my whole paycheck for to get. But that was a long, long time ago. Now, I wouldn't consider putting them on anything to include using them as a set of "roll along wheels" for a restoration in progress.
I was one of the first guys in Omaha to have a complete set of these things on a car in 1978, They were on the Thundercolt. mine even had the original centerline centercaps ( Just an orange C/L) Now they make me shudder to look at them on anything. Old wheels rarely stand the test of time. Nobody wants a Keystone Klassic or Craiger SS (and everybody had to have those things too) Centerline never made any wheel that has, and every car I will picture has a set of their billet wheels on them. They all look dated.
