I know its a little late since you already ordered the meter but i just bought megasquirt for my car, and its a complete standalone, replaces the stock computer, no more need for a MAF, and includes all sensors for 600 bucks. It even has the stock 5.0 tune in it. I think it would work well on your car too.

I may look into that eventually, the idea of a fully tweakable SD system is very tempting. Maybe once I go boost in the future...

The DBX 97 actually did come in. It is a huge, beautiful meter, but the sensors themselves look very frail. I would never run this without a filter like turbo guys sometimes do. A little speck of a leaf or paint chip or something would cripple this meter. That would be one less thing to worry about when running an SD system.

Also, I just talked to Mike over at TEA, the heads are ported and waiting on a valve job. Sounds like I should have all my junk by the weekend!

Nice, glad to hear some progress. I figured i would throw it out there since people spend half that on a mass air meter. Hell, i spent more money on my first chip tune when i had a hci and blower motor than i just did on a standalone. Wish i would have done this sooner. My understanding is megasquirt can do most of what the standalones that cost 3x as much do.

Ive really been thinking of building one of these lately, seeing as my 94 gt is about to make over 360whp, and thats only a 306! lol

look at the enormous cam specs! over 500hp! Ford Boss 302 Engine Build - Modified Mustangs & Fords Magazine

Im calling a few places today and see if I can do over 400hp reliably, if I can the turbo is gonna have to wait lol

just got off the phone with Tim Meyer and he's basically saying I could make well over 400hp with a good cam, all on a 302. I think I have found the answer!

sorry to **** up your thread niC lol.

See, I read about stuff like this, and I just have to wonder what the engine would do if you dropped a super mild cam in it. Like, 205*-210*ish @ .050" and .575-.600" peak lift. What would the low speed numbers look like? How would it drive? You know it would be a bitch to drive around town with that Comp cam- 252/264 duration split at 0.050-inch

You know what's interesting is that they reduced the duration numbers and raised up the max lift and they gained 22 hp and 20 ft-lbs. Hmmmmm...

I dont know if it would. Ill let ya know how mine does if I do it, but the cam numbers will prolly be something like 250/260 .675/.690, thats damn insane on a lil 302 lol.

I think I might have caught onto something here

Not much for an update, since I'm still waiting on the top end parts. They *think* they'll ship out on Monday, so hopefully you guys will see the good toys next week.

Anyway, here is a pic of the oil pump I broke (see the crack by the bolt):

The difference between the ARP oil pump shaft and the stocker, just for fun:

All the lonely toys waiting for a good home. You can see the 30lb injectors, the DBX97 MAF and the associated wiring, the 255lph Walbro fuel pump, ARP head bolts, SFI 18.1 balancer, and my new Ram clutch.

And lastly, a size comparison shot of the DBX 97 for your enjoyment:

BTW, Bell's Two Hearted Ale is #97 on BeerAdvocate's top 100 list right now. It's a very good beer for any IPA drinkers who have not tried it. Another Bell's product that is really good, but hard to come by (and is $18 for a sixer), is Hopslam. Oddly enough, it's #18.

I have that same balancer. Put timing tape on it or clear it. It will rust up quick.

Do you have the SFI unit or the OEM unit? This is the SFI one, and it's supposed to already have a baked enamel clearcoat. I looked at the OEM one and I saw that it had a bare finish.

which Ram clutch is that? I had the HDx in my old car and i liked it a lot. Picked up the ARP driveshaft too, much stronger than the full hex OEM one obviously. Looks like this things coming together pretty nicely... Hurry up

Yea, it's the HDX. I've heard good things, and it was time for a new clutch anyway. Anything has to be better than the old FRPP "Heavy Duty" clutch I had in there. Thing was stiff as hell!

Let me know how you like that HDX...I'm about sick of my 'heavy duty' one myself. Looks like it's all coming together nicely Nik...can't wait to see it back together!

Yea, I'll let you know. That "HD" clutch sucked!

Oh, and I can't wait to have it back together, too! The parts are SUPPOSED to ship today and be here no later than Friday. SO hopefully there will be some good pictures in here by the end of the week!

Time for a little update. The parts came in Thursday afternoon.

Well, most of the parts.

I'm not going to say a lot about it, because I'm trying not to dwell on it, but as you guys know, I ordered the parts 5 weeks ago. I was told 2 weeks. To clarify, the heads and intake came in 3 weeks late. The cam, the ONE thing I need to actually make some progress on assembling the engine, is not here yet. Supposed to come in Monday or Tuesday. I'm a little frustrated.

That's been my experience thus far with T.E.A. I can't say anything yet about the quality of their stuff, obviously, as I haven't put it together and ran it. It looks good.

Anyway, below are some pics of the intake and heads. Just as a reminder, the intake is a TFS-R 90mm, CNC port matched to the heads, and the heads are TFS Twisted Wedge CNC 205s, milled to 61cc chambers. Oh, by the way, they flowed the heads (and charged me $50 for it, not sure I asked for that...). Here are the numbers:

Lift - Intake - Exhaust
.100 - 70.70 - 56.90
.200 - 148.9 - 106.8
.300 - 224.4 - 153.0
.400 - 274.0 - 195.8
.500 - 305.7 - 220.2
.550 - 314.7 - 230.8
.600 - 319.3 - 235.8

It doesn't say on the sheet, but I'm assuming that is on a 4" or a 4.030" bore. I have no idea what kind of pipe they ran on the exhaust.

Pics:

Tried to get a shot where you can clearly see the difference in chambers. Notice the shrouding on the stock valves, and also the rotation of the valves on the TWs versus the inline valves on the stock heads.

Stock header gaskets were way too small for the TW exhaust ports. Go figure! So, I'm going to try to trim them up a bit. You guys like my pink Exacto knife?
