Dudes, I'm exhausted. I worked on the car from 9am to 6pm SOLID, without stopping, both Friday AND today. I wish I could say it was running, but you know how it is, little **** always turns into big **** and then before you know it, you've wasted 2 hours pounding axle grease into a hole. But, I did get the engine in the car, at least. Heer iz de pix.

*Gay voice* Fancy fancy one piece pan gasket. Oooh.

Tried to get a shot down the intake and into the head. It's pretty cool in person. That's a big ass port!

Water pump on.

Somewhere over the years, I mistook the threads on the header studs for 1/2-13, and so I was using 1/2 nuts, when they were really M12 studs. So I was slowly raping the threads every time I R&Red the exhaust. SO, I finally spent some time replacing the studs, using some all thread and a jam nut. I just went with 1/2-13 all thread, which required redrilling and threading the M12 threads in the header flange. This was one of those activities that should have taken 30 minutes, but ended up being 2 hours when I couldn't get one of the old studs out.

Flywheel/clutch on.

Assembled bell housing.

Bell housing on.

Going...

Going...

Gone!

Yea, I prefer to work alone, actually. I spend too much time talking and not enough working when I have "help". That, and, I have my own little obsessive way of doing things, and I think I would drive most people crazy if they tried to spend a day working with me.

Awesome job man!

Can't blame ya...everyone should be 'obsessive' about working on their own car. I am with my Cutlass now and was with the 'Mistress'...but now that she needs a new shell I just keep her going lol

I had someone help me do the clutch and hearing things bang and smack around just drove me ****ing insane....finally made said person leave and had the wife help me. She's great at it and was great with the top end rebuild I did on my Cutty....hows that for old ladys liking ur ride?

Haha, I don't think my wife would get in on that. She's pumped the pedal while I bled the brakes, I think that's about as far as she'll go.

Thanks dude! It's a lot of work, that's for sure.

Well, that damn silicone was really stuck...

Haha, kidding. The engine is just sitting on the mounts, and since it doesn't have any of the front dress on it, it's unbalanced and wants to lean back and sit against the firewall. It doesn't have the trans and cross member in it to hold it in place, so I had to improvise.

I hear that, theres only a couple people that i know that i trust to help with working on the car. The others "help" usually turns into something getting installed twice

Funny I'm the same way. All my friends pretty much know how I am with my cars and other things. They bust me all the time. They love dragging out my interior detailing brush kit and messing with me or watching me change plugs on one of my cars and crack up and give me total ***** on how I have to put all the clips back the way the factory had them and wiping down the plug wires to make them look nice and clean. yeah I'm a little tapped

Nice job sofar, liking the work my friend

Yep! I think I first realized it when I was in college and I had a few of the "Purdue Automotive Performance Association" guys over to help rebuild my rear end and put the 3.73 gears in. ("PAPA" was a university-sponsored "club" that I was a member/officer in.) After spending all day in the garage and well into the night, without success of actually getting the gears in, I told them we'd take a break and get together again the next day and finish. As soon as they left, I went back in the garage and worked until 3AM and finished the gears myself, hahahaha.

+1 on doing it yourself, i got my brother to help drop the motor in but other than that every bolt on my build has been turned by me and i feel better knowing it was done the way i feel is right.

Dang Nik! I can see why you didn't text me what all you've been up to... I also see why you said you've been busy at work! haha to pay for all the goodies! It looks awesome man! It looks beyond awesome! I am foaming at the mouth to see it! I feel pretty worthless because I STILL haven't replaced the control arm bushings in my red car and i haven't even touched the blue car (It hasn't even fired up since May '09)! Looks great man! Give me a shout when you get a chance!

Man, I was worried you were going to sell that car! Good to hear you still have it.

I can understand you being too busy to work on the cars, being a dad now!

Thanks and it'll only get buisier... We are going to hav another baby in December! I think you have helped fuel the fire with this thread! I have to get the blue car to the track! NMCA comes to Indy this year and I want to have it there for that! I want to find a set of GT-40 heads for the street car and want to get it tuned, it's still as rich as it was in school! The car looks great on here, I can't wait to see it in person again!
