Wassup guys, I have a question about nitrous and completely stock engines. I don't plan on going nitrous any time soon, but Im thinkin about going that route in the future. I don't really have the cash for a supercharger or turbo at this time, so I was thinkin about the nitrous option. I don't plan on going any higher than a 75 shot possibly 100 maybe...but thats a big maybe. The thing is...im wondering is it a good idea to go nitrous on a 5.0 stocker that has 135k miles on it. I never see a track, nor do I get on the gas often...so if I did go nitrous I would hardly ever use it( just for those lil stop light to stop light tangos..lol...j/k). I don't plan on doing any major mods to the engine..but i do plan on going with 3.73 gears and maybe exhaust. So what do u guys think about going nitrous with a high mile stocker??

No problems here 160k and spraying for over a year.... and keep up that "dream" of not going bigger... LOL Many of us have said the same thing.

Once you feel the 75 shot... you WILL want more. Then you'll get a bigger fuel pump, yours is getting tired now anyway. An adjustable Fuel Regulator is under $100 so that'll get justified down the road... next thing you know, you'll be on the 125 shot like me!

I could have had a SC for the $$$ I've spent on juice. I'm headed the H/C route next. But keeping the juice. LOL

I'm not expert, but from what I've gathered a good tune and a wet shot are pretty harmless.

Yup, Zex has been EASY and the numbers all my buddies and myself have been getting have been very impressive. It's a very good beginner kit. Trust me as I had never even taken a ride in a car with Nitrous til the month before when my friend put a Zex kit on his car. Instant Smile!

What's good now is that you can pick up a full kit on ebay pretty darn cheap. All the kits are the same except the jet sizes the kits come with and lengths of the hoses. Jets are cheap, so I would look at getting the best deal possible, then if you have to buy bigger jets.

Here's a page about my first night with my Zex kit: http://gcomfx.com/pages/stang/movies.htm

Here's some pics of my installation:

Thats why I hate Nitrous and would NEVER install it on my stang. I hate having to buy a mod and then have it being an on going expense. Buy a supercharger, bolt it on and be done w/ it....

I have about 130,000 miles and spray 125hp wet kit. I love it and have had no problems what so ever. I have a nx kit. I would reccomend it over any other kit. my .02 I've seen dyno results and nx numbers are rear wheel hp. While others are at the flywheel. Not a big deal but just the same. I'd put a bigger fuel pump and the adj. regulater. I don't spray that often so I put in a adj. timing control so off the nos I can bump my timing back up. What I like is the driveability off the bottle I get 19mpg Just cruising back and forth to work. That's why I went with nos and not the sc. I drive mine everyday during the summer.

They must spray all the time. I use less than one 10lb. bottle a summer. I thought I used mine alot. Also if you put on all the safety items like I did, you can double the price of the nitrous kit. It's almost idiot proof now. Like I said almost. haha Good luck I think you'll like.

No offense, but if you use yours less that 1 bottle a summer. You don't go to the track very much. I go every other w/e during the summer time. We have a track within 15 miles of where we live. Being the guy that runs 100mphClub.com I get Challenged a lot. And being as slow as I am off the bottle, I get a lot of guys who question my times I post. So I line up with them and show them. No tricks here... just a stock block and a Zex kit.

75 shot would last me about 16 runs or so... 100 shot would last 8-10... the 125 shot only lasts about 5 full runs. Give or take some depending on the weather (no bottle warmer). I've used more than one bottle in an afternoon at the track!

I've seen about every nitrous setup on a stang that there is at our track (except the Venom - still waiting to see that one). Nitrous Xpress would be my second choice of kits. It creates pretty good numbers too... but I've not seen ONE kit that will drop the times like a Zex kit. Our only guess is the little feature that checks bottle pressure and self adjusts for performance. Not sure how it works, but it works nicely. I've even used other bottles and bottle valves. Doesn't seem to matter.

I've NEVER dynoed a car and am NOT a mechanic. My friends do ALL the work on my car. I did MOST of the Zex hook up myself. So I feel confident saying it's a GREAT newbie kit.

In retrospect, I probably would have done my H/C/I swap first. I went through about 15 bottles over the summer @ $35 per bottle , so I've spent more on Nitrous in a season ($525) than the initial cost of the ZEX kit ($479+free shipping). For the $1000 I could have had a set of Edlebrock aluminum heads for several years. Granted the heads alone would probably end up with around 30-40hp and the Zex kit was a very easy 75-125. I can say the ease of installation and overall quality of the kit are excellent and the Zex kit is a pretty good deal.

Nx doesnt have a 125shot. I know it can be easily done but I wanna know what jets you are using to get that 125 wet shot ? My NX kit is still in the box and I'm really looking forward to at least spray a 125shot(maybe once or twice a 150shot) with my AFR 165's, my FTI custom cam and my Edelbrock Performer.
Thanks.

Ok yea if you race every weekend or every other you will use alot of nitrous. In that case go sc or turbo it will be cheaper in the long run. Mines a streeter. yea,yea it's illegal but the nearest track is is about 180 miles. I'll race about 15 -20 times a year. Just us locals that throw $50 in the pot and winner takes all. I do run a window switch and only inject at 3,200 to 5,500 rpm's in between gears. So I don't use a lot each run any ways.

Ok I found my cheat sheet. On my NX kit I jetted it 57n and 33F for the 125 hp level. This is based on fuel psi at 40 and the bottle psi at 900. With bottle heater I have a tough time getting my psi any higher. But with 1,200 psi bottle pressure and 40 psi fuel it would be 57n and 35f jets.

Oh... then there's THAT too. Yeah, I use more than I should. Since I'm not a mechanic and I "use and abuse" my friends. I'm going to go the crate engine route and have a friends do the swap. Easier on my friends, plus I get a warantee or sorts.

thanks for all the info...But i have another question....do i go with wet or dry?? I see that some people go with a wet kit and others go dry. What are the positives or negatives for choosing one over the other??? I want the less harmless of the two.

This has been an ongoing arguement, one that I researched heavily.

Dry is fine for small shots, never had a problem with mine. However wet kits are safer for larger shots. They are a little more detailed as you have to add fuel to the equation but they are safer.

Dry is cheaper on the kits and easier to hook-up. As long as you stay under 125 on your shot you should be fine. I would bump up the fuel pump, injectors, and get an adjustable regulator if you wanted to run a dry 125 shot.
