I'm planning on getting 245/40/R18 Z Nittos for my Mustang, my friend says that they're good tires but don't last very long on tread, but the salesman told me that they last very long and perform very well. Any experiences you guys have on this?

my nitto 555s have 10K on them and still look new. ( rarely do any burnouts )
there very sticky in the rain and have good sidewall strength.

555=street tire
555R=drag radial.
Nitto also makes another 555 just for road racing/autocross. i think its called the 555RR or something.
i have heard nothing but good things about the 555, handle great and have good wet traction.

The DR and semi slick tyres will not work as well in the wet for two reasons. Firstly the compound they use, they are softer and prefer higher operating temps (hence they don't disintigrate as normal tyres do when doing a burnout), they should grip ok on a wet surface but it it is wet and cold they will not perform anywhere near as good. Secondly is the tread pattern, it is not very deep and is minimal so you get a larger surface contact to the road, if there is standing water (even 1-2mm is enough) the tyres will not be able to move the water out of the way so aqua-plaining may occur.98laseredgt said:alot of people dont realize the the 555 and 555R are different tires.

The question is not are these good but what do you want? If you are into drag racing then set of DR's (any) will be worth it, but get a complmentry tyre for the front else the handling will go to shot. If you want to road race then the semi-slick is a good choice or if not bothered then the general performance tyre is good. But do remeber the better the performance the more it will wear - period.Seraphitia102 said:I'm planning on getting 245/40/R18 Z Nittos for my Mustang, my friend says that they're good tires but don't last very long on tread, but the salesman told me that they last very long and perform very well.
