no e brake

lost e brake all is hooked up cable & all else , seems there is an item that has snapped between plates as you pull up the brake ? if I put a small metal screw driver between the holes the brake works ? anybody know if there is a part that broke ? I cant find anything down there & have no picture to work from ? thanks in advance , its a 99 GT

does the E brake button work properly? if so it sounds like the locking mechanism broke. you'll probably have to buy the whole assembly. if not, something is preventing the button from popping back out.

the button works fine ? something has snapped or flew out , Murphy's law I quess , thanks ................................
