I took my car to get painted and it ran great. Now I got it back and the fuel pump is not working… Any tips on how I can trouble shoot my way to finding the problem? I did a wire tuck so the pump relay and all those wires are all pretty hard to get to now. However I took the front bumper off and reached inside the fender where I hid the relay and I feel and hear it clicking. What else can I check?

Inertia switch is also good

And what about power to the pump. Did it have voltage? Also did you have the relay under the hood initally? Supposed to be under the seat for some of the years

No I haven’t, how exactly do I check that? Where do I connect my multi meter probes?

Yes it was under the hood originally

Rather than repeat some things, check this out

Fuel - Fuel pump won’t prime

So I’m having a hard time on a 88 mustang I have that gives all the wires but one power on the fuel pump relay(pink/black). I’ve checked my grounds on the eec and they’re on tight but I am assuming it’s not completing the circuit by not grounding it it just sends power to everything but not the...

I hope it’s not anything relay related because then I have to take the fender off… I’m gonna read that thread when I get home and try it out . I’ll let you know thanks

Ironically that would an easy fix, normally. Good luck.

There is a connector behind the rear bumper and just above the fuel tank. You can separate that and check for voltage to the pump. If you have it there then you will need to drop the tank.

I attempted jumping the test port but im not sure if im doing it right. All I had was some extra wire so I stuck it in the port and touched it to multiple ground locations with the key on and nothing happened. Am I doing something wrong or is that just the result of the test?

Are you referring to this plug here?

Behind the bumper cover, under the car and just above the fuel tank. This one:

Which you can see in the very upper center of this picture:

What do I touch the other probe of the multimeter to? Just any ground?

If you have power there then the issue is most likely the fuel pump but it could be the connection on top of the fuel pump hanger.

So good news I have power at that fuel pump connection you told me to check. Should I just order a new fuel pump and filter and knock that out or are there any more tests I should do to check if it’s anything else
