It has been a while since they worked. I figured after sitting in the weather for a year it was just the bulbs themselves. I replace one and still nothing. Test the circuit, no power. "OK" I think to myself. I have power out of the switch and into the dimmer switch, but no power was coming out.So I buy a new switch and still nothing. So I try to jump it with a paper clip, but still nothing. The paper clip tested hot. WTF ?! Wiring diagram shows power into center wire of dimmer switch and out to headlights. Hence the paper clip. Two bad pieces ? Would think it's unlikely.

Don't assume that just because there is power to the dimmer that the light switch is good. There is a built in circuit breaker in these switches that can and will go bad preventing your headlights from coming on at all.

Check your firewall connectors and grounds.

Use a test light (not paper clip) to see if you have power at the headlight plugs. Ground the test light to the negative side of the battery. If you have power there, then the ground from the plug to the body is bad. If no power then go back to the firewall connectors. The bullets in them work their way out over time.

I don't no what year your car is, but here are some schematics and pictorals that will help you.

Schematics 64 1/2 to 67

Right, right. It didn't have power at the plug into the headlight itself. The paper clip I used to try and jump the plug wires like the dimmer switch was working. Does that make sense ? Thanks for the shcematic. That was the one I used. It is #15 that is hot. But from there it goes to the head lights. But I think the bullet plugs sounds about right. But why wasn't the dimmer switch transfering the power ? I checked right at the plug connection. (Either of them. I bought another one?) ????

Damn it was the ground. I guess after I found a good ground for the test light I moved it or something. The headlight tested negative the first time. So where does this things ground run to ? I don't want to cut it and reground, but I will rather than tearing apart all the wiring to find it. It's a 67 by the way.
