Just one good plug for anyone who has NOT done enough homework on their combo before they build it. Take your time. Just because the specs and the write-up on the parts sound all great, doesn't mean it's a good street or track combo.
I put together a 5.0 with Brodix heads and B-cam and track heat intake. These are all great parts, if used in the right combo, but not together.
There are other things, the usual- MAF meter, TB, ram air, larger injectors, but if the parts don't work for the same result you get crap.
Long story short, this was intended as an everyday driver street car, not a drag strip warrior. It ran fine, but with low drive-ability around town. From 3 grand to 6 grand the cam was good, from 1500 to 6000 the intake is fine, but heads were flowing from 2500 to 6800. The combo didn't work for the same purpose. End result, no low end torque to speak of, and then the power it put down when it made some was not awe inspiring, plus the curve flattened out at 6 grand. It ended up with a small power band mid to high.
My buddy with thumper heads walks all over my car and lots less mods.
I'm out.

I think he just unintentionally built a higher rpm combo then he wanted.

You need to get with one of the guys that cuts custom cams and tell all about your combo to see what his ideas are. Sounds like you got some dbig fat heads and ample intake that your cam is not making good use of. It's not uncommon to see two similarly configured combos have an 80+ difference in HP with two different cams. We're the "bolt on" generation and it doesn't always work out well. hehe

Good luck on your combo bro. I think you just need a couple key pieces to pull it all together.

I'm with daggar on this one. A custom ground cam will find the potential HP you have in your components. It's money worth spending to be happy.

That's really strange. Take it to a dyno or the track or something.....maybe your SOTP meter is broken, lol. When I did my heads/RR's/cam, I noticed a huge difference......like a 100 fwhp kind of gain. What carburetor are you running? What rear end gears?

I have the trick flow stage 1 cam and the specs are .499-.512, I love the cam, pulls hard right out of the hole and all the way up, I also have the edelbrock performer intake. maybe two small im not sure for my combo, or maybes its right but my car runs pretty good with it.

The regular Performer intake makes power to the same rpm as the TFS stage 1 cam (5500 rpm) Perfect match.

The problem isn't the intake you picked. The difference between the RPM Air Gap and the Weiand Stealth for power is negligible.

What about the Performer RPM II and the TFS stage 1 cam with T/W Heads?

That's a pretty good match too.....it'll just move the powerband up slightly.
