no mufflers

has anybody heard a 4.6 with straight pipe out to the tips instead of mufflers. with everything else stock exhaust wise, what did it sound like.

I did it. It sounds ridiculously loud. The whole interior of the car vibrates at any given RPM.

I kept it that way for about 3 months. It was ok, but I would not recommend it.

I had straights on my stang and i loved it. It didnt rattle any of my interior at all. All i did was go to a muffler shop and tell him to remove mufflers and put pipe instead and run 3'' tips out the back. i think it sounded good, but not as good as a catback like bassani or one of them. Its cheap and loud

i had mine like that right after i bought it. i liked the sound. mine had a bassani catted x on it from the previous owner so i dont know how the stock mid pipe would sound

It sounds sick as hell. It does not shake the interior of the car, and it doesnt drone.

With the stock h and no mufflers, 2.25" pipe this is what it sounds like... I REALLY miss the sound.

that sounds pretty cool, what about those S mufflers that are in summit or jegs mustang section. anybody tried those.

Its really up to you in the long run. My car had stock H and no mufflers. I thought I liked it until I got a catback system and O/R X pipe. straights is for redneck pick-up trucks.

Some like it, some don't. At high RPM/racing RPM's it sounds like an all out drag car. If you lug your motor at all though or drive lower RPM's it will sound like an F-150 truck...

When i bought mine it had the BBK H-pipe and no mufflers, sounded exactly like the video above 'cept it was louder. Altho flooring it in 3rd and 4th didn't sound very pleasant.

I've heard some crazy sounding 5.0's with straight pipes but the only 4.6 I ever heard sounded like total ass.

I ran my car for a night with just my off road prochamber, no catback. And it was straight up race car, it was soooo loud, and it had a great sound and rumbled the seats because the pipes ended right below. If ca wasn't so anal about everything, i'd run it straight midpipe all the time!! I dont know if that sound would carry through the pipes all the way back to the end of the car, (with no muffs) or if it would quiet it down at all, I think it would, but i'm not sure.

I started my car with just the x pipe no cats and no catback hooked up. That was brain rattling loud, I didnt even take it out of my driveway, lol. I revved it and got pissed cause it sounded about 10x more powerful than it is.

My '00 Vert is running a stock system with the mufflers removed. I really like it and I have had no legal problems. It is a bit loud at times like hard acceleration but we really are pleased. My '66 is running side exit pipes with the old style glass packs. As you see, I like the sounds.

My truck is running straights that doesnt have an h pipe or anything in it. I had the exhaust guy run them seperate off of the last set of cats(for some reason i have 6) and i prefer being really loud. Mines not rediciously loud or anything, guess i could take a clip. It probably wouldnt help you being a big ass truck with a 5.4 though. I loved the sound of my stang with straights, but it didnt sound to good if you reved and let it come back down fast, popped everynow and then. It was the cheapest thing i did to my car, only cost $90 including chrome tips.

I would imagine that aside from the sound change, you are also going to lose backpressure which will be detrimental to your performance.

I dont know, if you think about it bumping up to a 2.5" catless exhaust system would probaly have less backpressure than the stock 2.25" with 4 cats (or 6 if your NPI) and no mufflers.

Good question though. Mine didnt really feel like a slouch or anything without them, but the X pipe made it run pretty nice up top.
