Someone told me that if you remove the smog pump and leave the cats in that they will clog up rather quick like, is this true? If one were to replace the cats with aftermarket high flow ones would you still have this problem? Also with no smog pump and just 2 cats can you pass the sniffer??? Thanks dan

i would assume that u would clog up the cats u removed the smog pump but i'm not sure, but i would keep the smog pump if ur goin to be running cats. u might pass th sniffer depending on where u go for inspection, my advise would be take it to a gas station that does inspection.

the pump just adds air to the mixture the first minute or so to ignite easier to get the cats to temp faster so they do their job better. after the first minute or so it is bypassed. there are plenty of cars that run cats and dont have an air pump...dont worry about not running it

It's just there to make the old style cats work better during the first few minutes of running. Newer Mustangs have 3-way cats that are also positioned closer to the engine than before, they don't use/need an AIR pump. If the cats clog up, they were probably on the way out anyway. The cats on any new set-up should be 3 way and work fine w/o the pump.

Also, I think the thing runs constantly on the 5.0, but it just runs uselessly after the first few minutes. Seems kind of goofy.
