No Start When Hot

I own a very rare mustang - 1985 GT convertible with 5.0L CFI engine, automatic tranny with leather interior. I am experiencing a problem with the car. It will start perfect when the car is cold, however, after I run it for 10-15 minutes, it won't start. It sounds like a dead battery, but when I leave it for 1 hour, it fires right up. If it was the battery, it wouldn't start when either hot or cold. I am thinking that the problem might lie with a leaking exhaust pipe close to the starter. The exhaust is leaking onto the starter and the starter overheats after 10 minutes (too hot to start). After it cools down, it will fire up.

Any other suggestions on what the problem could be???

PS -- brand new starter on the car too.
