Noisy Valvetrain after H/C/I install and I thought I did everything right

Yeah you never know...the guy you bought the heads from could have cleaned them up .05-.10....Or a thick head gasket. Rule of thumb they say tighten rocker until theres no play but you can still spin pushrod.

Always check pushrod length. Personally Adjustable shaft rockers have made life easy. I have Probe ones. Just don't buy cheap Ebay stuff.

Grady has alotta good info!!!

I went straight to shaft rockers so i have no clue about stud and stock stuff.

I know they're not shaved down cause I bought them from a guy.......

posting in this very thread!

I guess its a combo of thicker head gaskets and the cam

I've ordered the 6.3 Trick Flow push rods we'll see if it works. I'll let you all know in a few days.

I'm the guy he bought the heads from...lol

And I pulled them off a completely bone stock Explorer engine. No mill work or anything like that. I did have them at the machine shop to remove some broken intake bolts and they said rebuilding them wasn't necessary, they were in perfect shape.

Good news everyone! After installing Trick Flow 6.3 Pushrods everything is all right. The noise is gone!

I see something in this thread that does not set well with me

I gotta say it would be a bit misleading for a Newbee

Being able TO or NOT ... rotate ... the pr's

Thats not a good test to see if the valves are adjusted properly

You can spin some of them with ease when everything is just perfect

Also when the lifters begin to bleed down a bit .....
you'll find more and more can be spun

With a first timer who has NEVER dealt with adjusting valves

Finding the EXACT point of no vt slack can be very difficult

Thats why ... having an experienced gear head bud along side to
kinda show you how to get the ... feel ... of the sweet spot where
no lash is can be SO HELPFUL

never the less ... on ped rockers

One has to be able to know they have preloaded the lifter to
whatever the correct amount is when you achieve the correct
amount of tightness :Word:

There is a very good reason
Lightweight Checking Valve Springs
Adjustable Push Rods
Dial Indicators
etc
are made for gear head folks like us

Valve Train Assembly ......................

If it ain't right on the money .......

Its gonna self destruct
or
At the very least ....
Its gonna rob you of horse power

I don't understand it either. I thought stock pushrods would work and they kinda did.

But obviously something wasn't right with my using 6.272 pushrods. They were very noisy. Rockers were not contacting the center of the valve stem they were on the edge.

Installed 6.3's and the noise is gone. The car is running great.

I did it and I'm glad you convinced me to! A lot cleaner and nicer looking this way!

Still have a little cleaning up to do. Installing my MSD 6AL tomorrow.

Intakehoses.com provided the 90degree and 45degree rubber elbows and the 3inch diameter aluminum tubing 6 inches long total. The part before the MAF is from a store bought kit by MAC. I didn't want to relocate the K&N from the fenderwell to the engine bay. Its anchored down and doesn't move at all. It worked out pretty well I think.
