Im back looking for some of my old buds from back in the day. For those that remember me I am now happily married and the stangs(I have 2 89 verts now) are sitting in front of my parents house waiting for an engine swap between the 2(the one is complete as far as chassis(minus brakes), and the new one has a nice ass trick flow motor in it). Really waiting for the money for a brake upgrade before throwing the tf motor in it.
Now for my problem. My wife accidentally filled up her 88 pontiac 6000 with e85. I have been away from the industry now since 2002, and I never learned anything about the ethenol 85. I did some research and came to the conclusion the car would be ok running one tank through, maybe even clean everything
. Well, the next day it wouldnt hardly start, and it would die shortly there after. Now I have it where it starts fine(I did not a thing), but as soon as you give it any pedal it tries to die. If I leave the pedal down(not full) it is a 50/50 chance that it will sputter and die, or sputter and then slowly come back to life and climb in rpm. My thoughts on this are":
1. The ethanol is mostly oxygen, the o2 sensors are reading lots of oxygen and dumping as much fuel as possible, therefore flooding the cylinders.
2. The injectors are not capable of spraying enough fuel and the motor is dying due to the lack of fuel.
3. The engine never gets up to operating temperature due to the lower burn temp of the e85.
So... I tried to syphon the gass out of the tank(unfortunetally I dont have a flex fuel vehicle to burn it in but that is a whole other problem all together). But... there is something in the filler neck to stop a thief from stealing my gass with a hose... so now I have no clue what to do. How long would it take the car to burn through 16 gallons at idle? I can't really drop the tank because I am in a condo complex... what would you guys do...
Then there is always the possibility the car is falling on its face because of a totally unrelated circumstance. I am really looking for some input from someone who may have witnessed the accidental refueling with e85. Any suggestions? Thanks alot, and sorry for posting here but I honestly can not think of any where else to turn.
p.s. Please none of the throw the pos away comments, this car has truly been a blessing to us and trouble free up to this point.
