Hey everyone, Im pretty new to Fords and I want to know a few things about them, mostly the rear end. Do they really make non posi GT Mustangs? I saw a video of one burning out and only one wheel spun :( I cant drive a muscle car unless its posi (hell I even put a Eaton in my V6 Firebird!). Im figuring that the non posi Mustangs are the ones that come with the 5 spoke aluminum rims, while the ones that come with "Magnum" wheels are the posi GT's. Right?? Also whats the stock rear end gear ratio of the Magnum wheel styled GT? Thanks :D

p.s. would be great if someone can tell me the package or trim names of Mustangs so I know the difference, instead of calling them Magnum Mustangs

I'm pretty sure all Mustang GT's came with Trac-loc rear ends (posi is for GM cars :p ). That car that you saw in the vid probably had dead clutches in the unit.

The posi doesn't work in my car. I cna only get one wheel to spin. When this happens (like my car) you need to add a modifier to the rear end fluid and it will help to activate the posi again.

it happens sometimes, nothing to really worry about. But ALL mustang GTs have "posi" (its called Traction Lock by Ford, or T-Lock)...posi is a chevy term.

ohhh, thanks for clearing that up for me. I came from owning Fbodies to now looking into buying a GT, also do the two Mustang GT have different trim names? Like the ones with the 5 spokes and the one with the "Magnum" styled wheels? Thanks alot again

The ones you refer to with Magnum wheels are most likely Mach1s. There all also GTs and Cobras and of course the red headed step child of Mustangs, the V-6.

The 03/04 Cobras are known as Terminators and are blown from the factory.

The ultimate Mustangs are Cobra Rs, there were 300 made in 2000.

Another ultimate Mustang would be an 03/04 Mystichrome Cobra.

Mustangs have many other trim lines such as anniversary editions and such.

Google for any of the terms in used in this post if you want to see pics.

Alright you talked me into it, here is some pics...

Fixt :nice: :rlaugh:

I think that wheel style came in around '01 or '02... also only the '03-'04 Cobras had superchargers. The Mach1 and Cobra engines were the same until then (aside from the shaker hood of course :p)

no no no, I know the differences between a GT, Mach 1, and cobra, GT = SOHC, Mach 1 = DOHC forged internals, Cobra = Forged internals DOHC + supercharged.

Mach 1 only has forged Crank (manual only) pistons and rods are the same crap that is in the GT.

Deluxe and Premium are the option packages available on the stang for the last several years (not sure how long).

The trac-loc has clutch packs on each axle and once worn they will slip, only one wheel spinning. The 2 cheap fixes for this is to buy a rebuild kit and replace the clutches and friction plates or reshim the clutches to tight'n them up. Doing the reshim has been proven to last longer (before it only spins one wheel) than replacing with all new plates. The shims are in the rebuild kit.

I cna only get one wheel to spin. When this happens (like my car) you need to add a modifier to the rear end fluid and it will help to activate the posi again.

The friction modifier is to quite down the trac-loc when the clutch packs are tight, causing clanking noises in the rearend. The more modifier you use, the more slipping you will have.
