In an attempt to save money I am hoping to not stork my motor. But is 400hp at the crank easy to get if possible out of the 351W and still be decent street driving (I don't mind if the thing idles really rough and but dieing isn't an option). New heads ported and polished, beefy cam, intake, 4bbl 750 (more?) and some headers do it?

I started the dissassembly of the motor and found the guts are in good condition. I plan on replacing the pistons at a minimum so I don't even know if I should just stroke it for an extra grand and then save money on the heads instead.

Opinions? Part/spec opinions?

I saw a write up online about how to build a 400hp 302 with out boring or stroking of any kind so 400 out of a 351w shouldn't be impossible.

I would say aluminum heads would deffintly help a ton.

Anyone use the Sumitt Racing rebuild kits with Forged pistons? $450 it seems like a good deal.

I just finished putting a 351w in my car. The computer dyno says its should be around 390 hp and 420 torque at 2200 rpm and up. Roller rockers and lifters, aluminum performer heads and intake, 650 carb and ceramic coated comps headers. I am playing with the timing to use 87 to 89 gas. Right now it does great on 91. Compression is only 9.7 to 1.

Don't bother with that performer intake it is garbage performancewise.
