Noob with a 65

I am new to this forum. I am building a 65 coupe. Currently doing a rotisserie rebuild. So far have the car sand blasted and in primer. Am in the final stages of body work in the engine bay and getting ready to paint the bay. I am also in the middle of cutting out and replacing the roof. I am planning on a auto to manual swap. I have welded my cowls shut, will be removing my gutters when I replace the roof, shaving the door handles and a hand full of other custom mods that are in the works.

So you used sand as your blasting media? Most people think sand will warp the sheetmetal. And they preach it to the masses that it will do so. But I've also read that sand works fine if used correctly. From what I've read it seems that the warping stories might come from people having used a large commercial blaster and using to much preasure.

I haven't had any problems that I can tell yet of warpage. I was pretty cautious when I blasted it.

Hey, I'm also new.

I'm also planning on removing the drip rails (gutters) on my 65 but my roof is good, so i plan on just cutting them off with a saw, and then filling the seams with a long bead of weld.

I was thinking about sealing up the cowl, how did you go about doing that? did you just gut out the grill and weld in a solid piece? And what about the two openings that go into the car? Did you seal those off as well? I haven't seen a car with the cowl all sealed up, it looks pretty nice because I'm not a big fan of that grill on the cowl, but i haven't seen it on a completed car. Do you happen to have any pics or know where i can find some of a completed or at least somewhat assembled mustang with a closed up cowl?

I think you're going to want to do that in sections. Cut a small section of the rail, then do your welds. If you cut the whole rail off at once you might have a hard time getting it back together right. I haven't done this myself. But I read it somewhere and it makes sense to me. I look forward to seeing how Tony R goes about it.

It is getting the top put on now. They will have it a little longer than we thought. It appears that they have run into some rust on the front of the top frame and have to fix that before it progresses. Should be out of there by Monday at the latest. I also had to replace the windshield (another delay for the top being completed) which I did not plan on. It was starting to delaminate on the edges.

I have an appointment for an alignment and put the tail pipes on next Thursday. I hope they can run the exhause over the axle with the G-Bar rear. So I should have a driver by Thursday afternoon (if there are not any more delays that is.).

My family is out of town until next Saturday about noon so I have about 36 hours of time to put in the stereo system and install the rest of the interior. Got any plans next friday evening (6/13)?

I made patch panels for my cowl and welded them in place. I didnt see any reason to remove the vents so I went over the top of them.
