My wifes 01 is in need of an exhaust and i was thinking about headers back. Ill need a high flow cat H and a cat back. Im not real familiar with teh 4.6 motors and what exhaust sounds good on them but we're looking for something thats not real loud, maybe a medium on the loud scale (stock is quiet, open headers loud) I have pypes on my 88 and like them alright, never heard them on a mod motor. Brassini, Borla and the like are going to be out of my price range.

Classic 40 series Flowmasters would still leave a little bite even with a catted H, but I don't think it'd be too bad at all.

If you want sound but quiet, Delta 40 Flowmasters are quieter on the inside than the classic 40's.

Pypes sound good on a mod motor, but I personally think they sound better with an X pipe.

After hearing them on my car i could see where they may be tuned a little more for the modulars than the pushrod engines.

right now everything is stock with some holes drilled in the mufflers, cause someone thought that would be a good idea. the car wont be driven much, less than 4 or 5k miles a year so a little louder wouldnt be too bad...

Get yourself a straight through style muffler instead of a chambered one if you want to keep your cats.

A regular Magnaflow catback with a catted MRT H pipe.
It should sound really nice and not be too loud either.

Agreed, I used to have that same exact combo on my mach before I went to LT's. It sounded great & was pretty quiet, but loud enough if that makes sense LOL...

I believe it stands for Mustang Racing Technologies? MRT is a smaller company, but they make the best quality H pipes on the market for 99-04 Mustangs. They are made of full stainless piping, & the catted versions have high quality Magnaflow high flow cats. The only down side is, they are PRICEY, but the quality is worth the money IMO.

The only reason I removed the MRT h, was because I went to LT's & it would no longer fit...

Yeah Mustang Racing Technologies.
The MRT H pipe is better quality than the BBK and Mac H pipe.
I wouldn't doubt it had better fitment either.

Yeah, it fit like a glove, & sounded great, but of course when I installed the Mac LT's, the MRT had to go since it wouldn't fit.

Nice I hope you got the coated version of the Mac LT's
because the uncoated ones have been known to rust on people.

Yup, I bought them used., & they are coated. They have been on my car for 2+ years, & before that my buddies car for 2 years. They are still in great shape, but they do have light surface rust near the collectors. It's ok though, because my car never sees rain & only gets driven 2K miles a year LOL...

Well, maybe 2k miles a year is an exageration LOL. But, I have only driven it about 26k miles since I purchased it in september 2006. I have only put 6k miles on it since October 2008.

if you have the stock maifolds, the flange used to connect/remove the midpipe on the passenger side to the manifold is a bitch to get at. make sure to have an extension long enough...and a lot of PB Blaster

other than that theyre a breeze...unless theres a spacer on one of the bolts like what was on my midpipe i had to cut it off or i would have had a terrible exhaust leak
