I've been searching and I know that the LX is lighter than the GT and that the Notch is lighter than the Hatch. I have been unable to find any numbers though, and I was wondering if anyone here could help me out.

I love the way the GT Hatch's look but if the weight difference is big enough i might have to reconsider and go with a LX Hatch. I don't really want to go with a notch because i don't like the way they look mostly because this car has to be my DD aswell but if its an assload lighter than i might consider one of those. I just dont want to dump $2,000 into a hatch if $1,000 could have gotten me the same times in a notch.

Thanks for any and all responses!

EDIT: And also what does H/C/I stand for? Heads/Cam/Intake?

The notch is a much stronger platform. The Hatchback is a weak link so you will get flex in the chassis. Also take that into consideration. Nothing that can't be helped with subframe connectors but still... One of the "heavy" parts for the GT is the fog light bracket. Another drawback to the fog light bracket is that its under the front bumper and with the leverage it really weights down the front end. Something that the mustang does a pretty good job of already. It's not just a matter of weight... its also where it is.

Thank you guys very very much! I think ill keep trying to find a GT Hatch because i can always take the parts off if i want to get it lighter, which would leave me at a difference of ~60lbs which i can live with. And buying subframe connectors isn't a big deal with how much money ill be spending on the car once i get it so i wouldnt mind.

Thank you guys once again for all the help!

unless your going flat out drag race, i dont see a problem with having all the accesories on a car. id be more worried about motor combos verses weight reductions. in my opnion i rather have a 3500lb car with a healthy motor with a s/c on it verses a striped out dd and be miserable when driving.
thats where i messed up on mine, the first week i got mine i remover smong and a/c on my 88 gt and didnt notice a diff. now when its 90-100 degrees out its misreable to drive, so it sits on hot days. thats my opnion.
everyone says the same thing, you got to know what your goals are with the vehile before u rip it apart. or before u buy one.
i was going to make my 88gt a street/strip car but i realized its to nice to tear apart. so now im making it my cruising mobile, with a little ass. so i just inhearted a 86 notch rolling chassis for my drag car.
hope this will help u and good luck on your purchase

Yea im not going to make mine into a pure strip car, ill take it there a couple times a year probably but nothing major. I just want a car that sounds wicked ballsy and has a lot of punch to it, so that's why the Trickflow Top-end kit, exhaust, filter, and maybe gears will probably be the whole extent of any mods ill put on the car.

If its not going to be a strip car for the most of the time, and your using it as your DD, I don't see the point in sacrificing some of the comfort items such as power locks/windows or A/C. Granted I treat my AC like a condom, i'd rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it =\

On that note..Don't be a fool, wrap your tool

On another note...Don't be a tool.

Yea i dont plan on stripping the car at all, the A/C and all power options will be staying with me. Now hopefully i can find one in the next 6 days before I go back to school!

Between a notch and a hatch its a MAJOR difference

about 400lbs different ;)

GT- 3400
LX- 3300
Notch-2900-3000

yeeeaaa these numbers are way off. I agree a notch is considerably lighter but only by about 200 lbs. and the difference between a LX hatch and GT hatch is less than 75 lbs. A fat-a$$ driver will make a bigger difference. On the other hand a nice slammed notch on 17's with a cowl hood looks PIMP.

EDIT

Ok so according to this site i had bookmarked about '85 302 coupes, they list a bunch of weights for different year/models. http://www.flemworld.com/85/info.html

Model: Trans Weight Weight Distribution
LX 5.0L Coupe 5 Speed 3040 59.2/40.8
LX 5.0L Coupe AOD 3100 59.3/40.7
LX 5.0L Hatchback 5 Speed 3105 57.8/42/2
LX 5.0L Hatchback AOD 3165 58.0/42.0
LX 5.0L Convertible 5 Speed 3240 57.8/42.2
LX 5.0L Convertible AOD 3300 57.8/42.2
GT 5.0L Hatchback 5 Speed 3200 57.9/42.1
GT 5.0L Hatchback AOD 3255 58.0/42.0
GT 5.0L Convertible 5 Speed 3330 57.8/42.2
GT 5.0L Convertible AOD 3445 56.9/43.1

I have no idea where these numbers came from but they seem a bit optimistic to me. I've handled a box of GT ground effects, and they weight at least 200lbs total. 100lbs between the hatch GT and the coupe is WAY off.
