What's up with the NW these days. It's getting worse and worse. Nobody seems to be racing. Nobody rolls their fast cars on the street these days. Anybody else notice this pattern?

All those other areas like phoenix, houston, orlando they have such the kick ass racing scene. :(

Maybe cause it rains 8 months ou of the year here. Notice the cities that you listed, Pheonix, Houston, Orlando, yeah they are pretty dry, at least comparitivly.

That and the ratio of ricers to regular people is lower here compared to those cities.

Actually the Pac NW is a hot bed of drag racing if you want to do it legally and safely. I can not belive that you think that racing is getting less and less, but then again if your talking about street racing then you are right, because it is, and thank heavens.

I would be a hypocrite if I said that I did not do my fair share of it back in the day, or from time to time now just playing around, but if you get caught street racing then you loose your car immedeatly, get a massive fine and your license suspended.....all for what?

When I could have waited and gone to PIR on a Wednesday night to race, or wait and go to PIR/Woodburn on Friday night, or Woodburn/PIR on a Saturday night, or possibly Woodburn on a Sunday.

Those are all just local tracks not anything north or south of us.

Fact of the matter is street racing is rediculous and usualy ends in diaster and it's not worth it any more, especially where there are places you can do it and not hurt someone and not worry about loosing your car or your license.

Five years ago, when I was in high school, the import scene really exploded in the Portland area. I had just purchased my mustang and could rarely make the two-mile drive to work without someone trying to instigate a race with me. Now that I am finished with college and back in the Portland area, it has become apparent that the street-racing scene is fizzling out. I know what you mean Varian! Whether or not that is a good thing,:D is a topic for another thread.

Maybe it's because those dumbazzes who use to street race are dead now? Every few weeks some punks are wrapping their vehicles around trees and telephone poles. Are you next?

Riiight. You know swimming pool deaths puts street racing deaths to shame. Maybe we should ban all swimming pools. Only 135 deaths typically occur a year from street racing. And of course those numbers are exaderated. How often do you hear peole getting speed racing tickets yet they were the only car speeding on the road. That's not racing. If all states had equal share 135 / 50 = 2.73 deaths per year. There's several other death related activities that shall be persued over racing.

PUnks always crashing cars what does that have to do with street racing. Ther'es a time and place for everything.

:bs: :ZipIt: C'MON THAT IS NOT EVEN A REALISTIC COMPARISON. The major difference there is that Street racing brings the danger to EVERYONE. no matter who, when, where they are. My wife or kids could be going to the store to buy some milk and some a55hat decides to race and kills them. Nothing they could do, or even know to fix the problem. Swimming pool you at least know is there, if you gonna get drunk, can't swim etc, you stay clear, basically the victim at least has a chance to avoid the situation..

Then lets see um, It's ILLEGAL!? and as mentioned the penalties have been sharpy increased, so there is another reason not to risk it.

Like has been said we all at some point have done the light to light 5spd shuffle, but I think people are realising it is just not worth the risk, that and I think many (NOT ALL) of the import are realising they are not really a challenge most of the time. (there are exceptions of course)

Then add all the local tracks and yeah street racing hopefully is dying out...

I Will always street Race, Let me clarify, We race on a industrial road at 3 am, I'm not talking about the stoplight around the corner of your house while your on lunch. Use common sense, If there is a bunch of idiots there dont race, heck even leave sometimes. I am all for going to the track and racing your car, And I prefer to be among the living. Driving anywhere is a risk.

To give an outsiders view, I am from Maryland, been in Oregon for 5 years, I live in slow Newport so there is no such thing as street racing, but when I do go to PDX area it seems like there is not as many American muscle cars running aroung like back east. The rice is not that bad either, there is more out here because there is less of the other.

I wouldn't street race out here cause there is nothing to prove, what race a stock Stang with some pipes, or a Camode with some radials, HAHAHA But I am a hugh fan of those "run what you brung" guys. All heart, trying with what they got over and over to prove themselves, against a matched competitor.

Back east or at least in my area street racing was more orgainzed that I could begin to explain. And I NEVER saw one accident, because the big scence had big cars, cars that high school punks dont own. Many trailered 8 thru 10sec cars, and some evil street cars, but it was just not open for everyone.

I respect the street scence back home, NO punks NO bs, late hours, hidden back roads and well orgainzed. You leave it all on the line on the street, but if done properly, well I guess you know how I feel:nice:

It's called a track. Go there with your 50 dumbass friends and you'll probably look like a fool with your 15 second time slips. :nonono:

I do use the track and lets see here. With slicks I have a 9 second car thank you very much. Anytime and i'll race you at teh track. I personally dont' have a cage in my car and can't run faster than 11.50 @ 135 more than once a year. Plus i prefer road racing 1/4 isn't nearly as much fun. Plus this car is my daily driver.

And yes you think I run cars in the middle of the city? With a external wastegate hells no.

Impressive. So what's there to prove on the street? Me got 9 second car. Me badass. :nonono:

The street racing scene may suck here, but the track racing certainly doesn't. And that works just great for me.

At a $10-$20 entry fee, and multiple events, there really is no excuse not to take it to the track. I think most of the street racing rice boys avoid the track because they'll have to explain to their friends and girlfriend why they dont have a "10 second car" like on the movie.
