O/R H pipe install tips

Yesterday I bought a slightly used(less than 2,000 miles) BBK O/R H pipe from a buddy of mine. I was going to buy an O/R X pipe, but he was in a jam and needed the $. So I decided to help a fellow 'Stanger out and gave him $100 for it. I know I could have got a new one for just a little more but he needed some cash to finish his car up for Woodward this weekend and I figured what the hell. I'll get an O/R x when I go long tubes in a few years.

When I get out of work in about an 1hr from now, I'm going to go home and install it. At lunch this evening I picked up a new passenger side steel exhaust manifold gasket from the local Ford dealer and earlier this morning I picked up some Steeda MIL eliminators. Is this a pretty easy job, or am I in for any unexpected suprises? How about the MIL elimators. They go on the back correct? This is the 1st Mustang that I've done any mods to. I'm use to working on classic Mopars, and there isn't any of this kind of stuff involved when modding them. Any tips or suggestions is GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks in advance GT JAY

it helped for me to take the passenger side front wheel off. but i have a 98 so it might be different for you. and a swivel socket extension thingy helps alot too. took me and a friend about 3 hours to do the h-pipe (jegs h-pipe) and flowmaster catback. good luck. have fun.

have a friend help u out. the stock pipe is heavy and its pretty impossible to hold it up and loosen the other side at the same time. spray some wd-40 on the bolts to loosen them up like an hour before the install or ur gonna crack some sockets. (i cracked 2). took my friend and i 30 minutes. best mod ive done so far. also ur gonna need a 12 inch or so extension to get to the passenger side bolts. thats the hardest part of installing the pipe. ive installed and taken off my h pipe about 6 times (long story ) so let us know if u have any other questions. good luck

The only thing I can add to the above posts [which are all very good btw] si that you may need some special manifold studs for the drivers side manifold. The stockers have a large amount of un-threaded space on them and that can be enough to leave a little exhaust gap, as was the case with my 99 SVT.

NAPA part# 600-1819 is a set of studs with considerably less spacing on them, about 1/4" as opposed to over a half inch compared to the stockers. They can make all the difference in the world. I picked mine up for $9.11 at my local NAPA. You'll also need a stud extractor of some sort to get the stockers out.

I gave 100$ for my BBK off-road X and after hearing about exhaust leaks and install pains, I took it to my local shop and had it professionally installed (with no leaks!) for 20$.

Well I didn't install it until today. Everything went smooth, until I realized the the 02 sensors in the front are on the bottom of the BBK H pipe unlike the stock ones which screw in from the top. I was about 7"'s short to plug them back in. So I had to have a buddy of mine go to the local Ramchargers and get me some extensions. Lucky for me they had them in stock and the were only $20 each. While I was waiting for him to get them, I got everything bolted in so when he got ther all I had to do was plug them in and go. The whole removal and install was A LOT easier than it looked when I got under the car. 1st thing I did was spray the manifold nuts with some WD-40. and then I got the air compressor going and went to town. It took a little test fitting with different extensions and swivels, but it was a snap. It's a little louder than stock, but not annoying. As of right now I'm still using the factory cat-back, but i think some Flow's will be in order next spring. When i get home tonight, I'll disconnect the battery and reset the computer. So far, so good.


P.S. The Steeda Mil eliminators worked beautiful. A little trim on the tabs, and they snap right in.
