ODB 1 or 2 ???

That makes it an OBD2, like I said in a previous thread. If it weren't under your dash, It'd be under your hood, thus making that an EEC connector

EEC-IV use the OBD 1. In 96 the 4.6 used the OBD 2 with the EEC-V. My 95 gt is OBD 1 EEC-IV.

OBD2 connectors are under the dash panel

Best bet look under the hood on the passenger side. You will see a connector that reads EEC-IV if thats their problem solved.

He Isn't talking about a 96 first off, and secondly, his 95 aint the same as yours, so his probably was built with the OBD2 "NEW"standards for the spilt year. The U.S. Government changed emissions laws at that time, thus spliting the years in which some vehicles had OBD2, and some didn't.

I know he's not talking about a 96, and secondly, no two cars are built the same, what i'm trying to say is as far as I know the 5.0 used the OBD 1 and the OBD 2 was used in the 4.6 thus being in 96. You may be right. I have worked on a few 94/95 mustangs awhile back when I worked at Ford and the ones I worked on I recall them being OBD 1.

If you have the connector under your dash, and it's odd shaped. It's OBD2. It will kinda look how an Atari joystick used to connect into the game panel, if your old enough to remember. If so, than you have the mid year 95, w/ OBD2

The 95 5.0 mustang uses OBD I. 100% absolutely positively!!!! There are many ref's for this. eg. Ford shop manual CD, Haynes manual, etc.

The 95 3.8L V6 cars were OBDII. That is where the confusion starts. To make things even more confusing, Ford installed the OBDII connector under the dash on all mustangs...regardless if it was a base V6 (OBD II) or a V8 (OBD I).

To further add to this mess, almost every part store in existance will tell you that a 95 mustang with a 5L V8 uses OBD II and has four O2 sensor's. (2 pre-cat and 2 post-cat) This is 100% wrong. All 95 and earlier V8 EFI Mustangs only use two O2 sensor's.

The V8 Mustang didn't start using OBD II until the 96 model year when the 4.6 L engines came on line.

or if it has 16 pins, that is OBD-II, right?

i know with 4th gen camaros, there are some with obd-II ALDL's and they are obd-I. scanner companies make an adapter for OBD-I scanners to read them.

The J1962 act states that all DLC connectors must be under the dash on the drivers side. These DLC's must all have the same connector which is 16 pin. Your 95 GT is OBD 1. I don't think ford would spend all the extra money to get obd 2 in a mid year car when they did not have to.

The 5.0's were OBD I; V-6's were OBD II. OBD II was introduced to V-8's with the change to the 4.6 in '96.

Sooo... who fed this to you?



94-95 cars were not OBDII ever.

Same sensors, same everything, nothing is different sensor/eec wise to make it OBDII.

The only thing I can think of is... TAKE A PIC.

go under your hood and see if there is a EEC port on the passenger side, near the A/C canister on the firewall. Look closely.

This makes alot of sence as ford used the same wireing harness for the electrc. system. so if the v6 (obd2)had it then the v8 (that was obd1) did not then if they had to have it for one model then all would have it, just that the v8 one would be non-functional.

Thats why you can add a keyless to a non-keless car, or add power windows and locks to a base (or GTS) without getting a new harness.

bottom line no 5.o mustang was obdII, the feds did not mandate a mid year smog change as that is done to the model year (not mid year). the standards are set for many years in advance and the companies are given time to meet that standard to get aproved for sale.

FWIW, the new ford GT will not be able to be produced past like 07 due to the standard set beyond that year.

I knew it had to be the OBD 1 system. I was was pretty sure the 5.0 didn't use the OBD 2 thanks for the comfirmation on this subject.
