Hey guys i have a 1983 mustang GL and i am converting it into a GT i have been told that all the 80's GT factory ground effects would fit onto this car.... is that correct? I cant remember if it is or not, if so would it work for the 90's fox bodies also along with the cobra style effects....

also what years did they make the saleen fox bodies?

thanks alot

The 87-90 will fit. The difference is that Ford enlarged the front wheel opening in 91 for the 16" Pony wheels, and made smaller ground effects pieces around the front wheels. You would need to either get newer 91-93 fenders or cut yours to use the newer front ground effects. I know the ones in front of the wheels are shorter, and seems like someone also had about a 1/2" gap on the rear part of the front fenders when they used the newer part (right in front of the door) on the older cars.

The Cobra stuff would work, but again with the same mods necessary for the GT stuff.

Saleens came out in 84. They only made a few in 84-85. 86 was the first year more than a handful were made, and quite a few (relatively speaking) were made from 87-93.

i used 87 ground effects on 91-93 fenders, didnt have a problem. the ground effects should fit fine the same basic body was used from 79-93.

That's because the 87-90 front fender ground effects pieces are bigger than the 91-93. They will fit on a 91-93 with no problem, except they make the wheel opening smaller. Since his car is a 83, his fenders are larger than the 91-93 cars, meaning they have the smaller wheel opening. It all depends on if he wants to cut the fenders or change them to the newer ones to use the 91-93 front fender ground effects. I plan to change mine to the 91-93 fenders when I get it painted since my 17" wheels and 245 tires now rub on the front part of the fenders when I turn into or out of a parking lot. A good 3/4" will help quite a bit with the rubbing.

Good luck!
