alright guys here it goes another issue with the mustang, ok so i just got a weiand stealth intake manifold and a holley i believe 600 carb wiht vacume secondarys, and a electronic distributor put on the car, fired right up and seemed to idle fine, ok here comes the problem the idle is KINDA rough but that may just be the cam i have wich i will get specs for yall later but when the motor is reved and held at one position, dont know the rpm's, it seems to lope like crazy almost as if i am fethering the throttle just runs REALLY rough doesnt die but rpm's seem to go way down then go up then down, so it soudned to me like a vacume leak so i hooked up my neighbors tester and no problem at idle is about 12-13 and with it reving and doing its thing it just goes up.....so any insight on what hte deal is the needle is pretty stedy too.. thanks again :)

Check for vacuum leaks. Spray carb cleaner all around the intake and carb base. What did you time it at and where did you connect the distributor vacuum line to? Is the carb new or used ? If used, did you install a kit in it ? Did you mess with the float settings?

i checked the for leakes with the cleaner test i wam going to check again it is a used carb but looked clean so i didnt use a kit on it it came off a running car my dad had but had no use for it, the vacume port on the distributor is connected to a nipple on the carb there are two but i didnt think it matterd wich one but i dont know my neighbore messed with the float setting and said he got it figured out a little bit he believes i need to change the jets in it but doesnt think that is the problem at hand just something that would help down the road its so frustrating i just want my car back hah

The distributor vacuum line goes to the nipple on the passenger side of the main metering block. If the carb sat for long, the Powervalve diaphram may have dried out and now has ruptured causing your problem. The float setting should be where fuel just dribbles out the port window when the screw on the passenger side of the main bowl is removed (engine shut off for this) It's the big brass screw there. Don't mess with jetting till you have everything else figured out, otherwise you'll just compound your problems. The one other thing that may need to be changed if it sat awhile is the accellerator pump diaphram, this one too will dry out and rupture if it sat and dried out. The powervalve and accellerator pump diaphram are available separately off the shelf at some Advance Auto, Autozone and O'Reilly's stores. If it's a 600 cfm Holley, the powervalve is a 6.5.

ok i have an updtate i changed out the carb for my old one just in case the holley was messed up so anyways the edlebrock did the same thing so i dont think it was it ,so anyways i have another question could it be the vaccume advance on the distributor that is makeing it mess up? i did the spray test again and found nothing tomarrow i am going to change out my distributor for my dads just to see if it solves the problem and if it does i guess i will be talking to summit

ok i have anther update...so i was thinking that it could be the vacuume advance on the dristributor so i bypassed it and the car ran alot better...it was a little rough when going down the street but A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER so i am going to call summit and find out what they reccomend i guess
