How much horsepower is lost when you switch from a o/r x to a high flow cat x?

I've seen some of the guys who go to the track often say an off road mid pipe dropped about 1/10 from their et and that would be about 10fwhp.

The thing you gotta remember is if they were talking about going from the stock 4 cat pipe then that gain is gonna be more than if they had one of the after market high performance cat mid pipes and then went to the off road pipe.

If I was gonna try and guess at a value, I'd say the cat pipe would cost you about 5 to 7fwhp on a stock block based combo.

I am going to be going from my high flow 2-cat to an O/R in the next couple of weeks (looking for used headers now) So I can give you my take on it then. I am guessing 5hp but mostly ehxuast will sound much better...

Yeah, I know I will be losing the sound, but my dad won't let me get an O/R pipe. . It still should sound better than stock because they are high flow and 2 less than stock right?

yeah stock H Pipe is 4 cats , high flow cats are 2. The slight power loss for a Hi flow pipe VS the O/R pipe is not that bad considering the hassle you dont have to deal w/ for emissions or inspections.

Syned-Been there...done both. I had (actually still have) a BBK high flow h-pipe. Switching from the stock h-pipe to that one opened up a whole ton of power and sound. Being a little curious i bought an o/r h pipe and the only thing i noticed is that it is louder. I didnt really notice much if any power loss. My track numbers were hardly off either. I dont know where you live but i have my BBK high flow catted h-pipe for sale...i only used it to pass smog and since i am putting a carburetor on my car i really wont be needing it. I only want $200 for it. Let me know

the only cars that will really notice a real big difference are high horspower cars where a slight restriction means a larger loss they did a test on it in muscle mustangs and fast fords I think it was only worth like 3hp on a stock car
