Well gang, after the Ford house having my car for nearly two weeks I got to pick her up last night after work. The 1-2 shift grind is gone! It's like night and day, should have been like this 24,000 miles ago. Problem now is whoever took the shifter bezel off (the plastic piece with the leather boot attached) broke something on it so it rattles like no tomorrow. It also had 28 miles added to it which seems very excessive but I dont know if I should complain. I need to wait for it to get very very cold again and see if it crops back up but as of now no complaints.

I would highly recommend to you guys to write letters to Ford Customer View Point as they were outstanding at hearing me out and allowing them to supply documentaiton from this board. Also, personally I'd refuse to sign anything saying that the problem has been fully rectified as I was asked to do so.

I talked to my UAW rep today and he is contacting his counterpart at Dearborn Assembly along with the Tremec Rep there and will let you know what he finds out. He said the TSB is on it's way and other parts are involved besides the ones already listed here.

My 2002 Mustang GT 5-speed was grinding between 1st and 2nd and was especially bad in cold weather. The dealer replaced the original transmission but the problem still existed with the second transmission. I complained again but my dealer said he could do nothing more without authorization from Ford. So, I filed a complaint with the Dispute Resolution Board.

I submitted a thorough package of documentation to the board to describe the Tremec 3650 gear clash problem. The documentation included info about this forum, e-mails I got from Tremec, info from the NHTSA site, and a chart to illustrate the number of gear clashes I was experiencing (per day) over a one week period. I also asked to to give an oral presentation at the board meeting. At the oral presentation, I provided an audio recording of the gear clashes. The board members were very professional. They asked good questions and gave me the opportunity to further describe my experience with the gear clash problem.

I just received a letter from the board. The board has upheld my complaint and required Ford to replace the transmission. It took a bit of time and effort to go this route but I am obviously pleased with the outcome.

Before I accept the new transmission, I plan to check with Tremec and Ford engineering to make sure I get the model with "all" the required updates. Good luck to all.

Thanks for sharing that. You are saying the same thing I have said, and all I got was negative feedback. I can understand why my dealer wants to wait until the TSB, which I KNOW is coming now. They want to get it right the FIRST time.

Brianmef,
I was unaware of new parts in addition to the current list of "fix" parts. We all are hoping for this TSB. Good luck to everyone. ~9 weeks to end of first quarter.

My 2001 Bullitt has the hard 1-2 shift, which improves when warm. I'm taking it to the dealer before the warranty expires to have it checked out.

You guys with the warrannty running out need to call the 1-800 number to Ford customer service and complain and tell them you want the problem fixed and your warranty extended. My 01 is covered 'til 2008 or 75,000 miles with a $50.00 deductible.

I'm not sure it's in the owners manual. It's 1-800-xxx-FORD

Well, I got my car back on Wednesday of last week. The clash between 1-2 is gone, and shifting is much improved! Talking to the tranny tech, he told me that the fluid in the trans was pretty harsh for such low miles (3100) and had metal fragments in it. I was pretty lucky and my dealer was able to find all the parts required in stock and was able to overnight them. They were very helpful in resolving this situation as well!

I do have to take the car back in tomorrow so the stupid autobody shop can replace the Mach 1 passenger side front lower stripe for the 3rd time (the idiot still can't seem to line up the stripe, and I am about to tell them to just give me the stripe and I will do it myself), and where they aligned the fender to the door, well now there is a gap between my hood and fender, DOH! Needless to say it is not the hood, and it is caused by how they aligned the fender. The other thing is when they fixed the A pillar wind noise TSB, it is now louder then before, so that needs to be addressed as well.

Hopefully those of you with problems, can find a dealer who wants to work with you! As I stated earlier in this thread, at first, they couldn't find a problem and didn't see anything wrong, until I pointed it out. The tranny tech couldn't believe the difference the new parts made!

Fair weather fix

Spell of warm weather here and shifts much better.

Has it occurred to anyone that the TSB we are all waiting for is scheduled to arrive with the warm weather. This should make it hard to tell if anything is different.

Hmmm....

Show them the problem when it's cold and make sure it's documented. As long as there is a TSB though, I would think they would fix it anyway even if it is warm.

Brainmef,
Again and again, most of us are getting the "it's normal" speech, our service write-up's say no trouble found, could not duplicate the problem. They do that so you cannot do the 3 attempts to fix it, lemon law. I am hoping that the fact that our description of the problem is on the service paperwork is enough.

9 weeks until TSB?

That's right... get the complaint itself documented. Whether they admit there is a problem is a different story. I am sure the TSB is coming out soon and when it does, I don't think it will be a problem getting the transmission fixed.
