No TSB yet, but they will do the work now.

How many people have had the parts installed with 100% success in eliminating the 1-2 grind? 1 or 2 people on the site?

Welcome to the club. My tranny (03 Gt) was swapped out the end of January and while better than the factory trans, is still a little notchy also.

The only benefit is now it's starting to get warm in NJ and of course it feels better.

But now I have a ticking sound from the engine around 2500rpm's, so the stang is going back into the dealer.

Had mine fixed and the difference is incredible. No more 1-2 grind and it goes into 3rd with no problems, and even downshifts great. The difference is like night and day. I didn’t know how bad it shifted before until they fixed it. I have only 2400 miles on my Mach 1 and the ticket said they found worn syncros! They used some of the new part numbers and a few additional parts as well. They didn’t argue when I took it in and they said they knew exactly what the problem was. They were an SVT dealer so I figure they were used to fixing the problem. When I called Ford the woman said she knew what I was talking about because her father had the same problem with his car. She told me to take it to an SVT dealer because their Techs are required to have a higher level of certification. (I don’t know if this is true but my first dealer was as about as useful as a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.) She recommended the dealer I took it to. I’m happy so far I just hope it lasts. I can post a scan of my service ticket with the work that was done and the part numbers if anyone is interested.

I have a 2002 Gt 13k miles. Just got the car 3 weeks ago and when cold the FIRST time i shift 1-2 it clunks/grinds whatever. I noticed that if i double clutch the first 1-2 shift it goes in smoothly. So next time just double clutch your first shift then you should be fine.

OK here's a scan of my service invoice. I hope this helps. Also there is someone on the Mach 1 registry posted a scan of his fix. It was a little different but here is the thread if you want to read it. http://www.mach1registry.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12511

Thanks for the info. I couldn't help but notice they only used 3 quarts of fluid??? Is this accurate, or am I mis-reading one of the part numbers?

Thats what the ticket says, I haven't had the time to get the car up in the air to get a good look at what they did, but the difference in shifting is amazing. It almost shifts like the toploader in my 68.

Here's something that'll make you laugh...NOT.

Ford replaced my tranny in Jan and on the work order had 5 quarts. I questioned the tech and he said that they put in the proper amount but put down 5 quarts to bill Ford.

In the meantime the new tranny felt horrible. After a few days I brought it into my mechanic who drained the oil and guess what, the idiots did put in 5 quarts. I had the mechanic lower it to 3.2L (as recommended by tremec) and it felt better, still a little notchy, but alot better than when it had 5 quarts.

Of course Ford never admit to it now, but it really doesn't matter what they "say", as I have it on paper (5), clear as day.

And tremec claims that I have the upgraded 3650 model with the new parts. So tell me, why is it still a little notchy. The only good thing now is that it's getting warm in the northeast so it's not as bad.

2001 Cobra
Broken shift fork @ 400 miles, tranny rebuilt
notchy shifts @ 1800 miles, tranny replaced
wont stay in 2nd gear @ 10000 miles, tranny replaced
notchy and grinding when shifting into 2nd and 3rd @ 20000 miles, I am replacing the tranny myself with an upgraded unit.

Good to hear I'm not the only one with a POS driveline in my 30k car.

If it was me, I would take the car to the dealer NOW, tell them about the problem and that there is parts out to fix it. I would tell them that this car will sit here until it's fixed and to give me a loaner. That's what I'd do... My service manager said that once the warranty expires, it expires. No free fixes even for a problem before the warranty expired. I totally disagreed with him about that. I feel that if you reported this and they didn't do anything about it before the warranty expired, they would still have to do this as long as you have a complaint on record.

My 2002 GT goes in on Tuesday for a new transmission from the factory. I asked the folks at Ford to tell me what fixes were included in the unit they sent to the dealer. According to Ford, the new transmission has all the updates that will appear in the "soon to be released" TSB. It's still cold here in Illinois so I should get a good read on the effectiveness of the updates.

Keep us informed what happens. My 03 GT received a new tranny back in Jan 04, and it's still a little notchy. I got ahold of my contact at tremec and he verified that I got a new upgraded tranny so the problem should be gone.
