Oil coming out of breather on 351W??

I'm looking at a car that has a carbed 351W in it. It had oil coming out of the breathers on both valve covers. He said it was normal, what do you guys think?

Check to see if there are baffles in the valve covers. They may have been removed to make room for different rockers, if there were any at all.

They are aftermarket valve covers, iirc they are Ford Racing

im having the same problem with my 331. its from no baffles in my case.

does it do it so bad that the oil drips on the headers?

I had the same problem but had valve covers with baffles... also had .040 of ring end gap, and bad valve seals... You could see the oily smoke get out from the scoop on my car lol

I talked to local Mustang guy and he said its doing it cuz there isn't a PCV system, assuming the motor is good.

its from blowby, very common from what i understand.

i am just putting my stock valve covers back on, with a breather on the filler neck and the pcv line hooked back up.

Technically speaking, there should be a PCV valve in the passenger side valve cover. The driver's side should have a breather with a hose coming off of it that attaches to the air cleaner base. Thise would create a nice evactuation system, with the breather taking in clean air first through the air cleaner, then through the air cleaner in the breather and finally, into the engine. The PCV will also help. Of course, baffles are a must!

For what it's worth, I had the same problem on my old V-8 powered Pinto. I then changed the valve covers to baffled units and set my system up like the one described above and all of my breather problems were over.
