Oil fumes out of breather

On my carb'd 302, I have a breather on each valve cover and they let out loads of fumes. I am wondering if this is normal? I got good oil pressure, engine is old but is in great shape. I am going to get some breathers that will allow me to just dump the fumes into the carb.

I've always heard that it's the rings going bad.

a few years ago i owned a 83 chev malibu 3.8l with a carb and one day there was a pop. so i took off the breather and it was full of oil. the car never worked the same after that. but i dont know what the problem was, but i always wondered waht the problem was.
