where is the oil pump located on these 4.6 motors i want to replace it because the oil pressure gauge seems to be acting funny and im not sure if its the pump or the guage or the sending unit.... i picked up a 96 crown vic police car and im gonna swap the engine in a 91 notchback so i would like to change the pump if its not to hard of a job..... i know the 5.0 engine pretty good but im new to these modulars. thanks any help is good

if the motor is out its easy, take off the oil pan and its inside. i took the screen and burned the old crud off so all i needed was the pump. if the motor is in the car it still needs to come out. trust me im rebuilding my wifes 4.6 p.i and was just going to replace the oil pump. no amount of jacking can get it high enough to drop the pan. so i pulled the motor and tranny. crank was shot and so were the main bearings. its alot easier on a chain hoist than on your back. sending unit is only $6 or $7 dollars i would check that first. just make sure you specify for what gauge you have
