Guys,
I need some help here, I installed a new oil pump last year. The problem is I didn't prime it, the oil pressure sometimes reads low. Should I replace this pump to better the pressure and prime the new one prior to start up or is there something I can do without re-doing this work?

Factory, or aftermarket gauge?

Also, this is more "techish," so I'll toss it in 5.0 Tech.

priming it before hand will not make a difference how it will perform later on dude. if the pump is bad, its bad from the get go. when you prime a pump with a rod attached to a drill, your essential doing it the same way an engine would while the engine is running. im not understanding your logic.

Looks like I will be getting another pump, but first I will try another gauge. No logic to understand, just seeking more knowledge.

did you change it due to low oil pressure or was there no oil pressure before you changed it?

there could be bearing damage

also did you check to see if the pickup screen was not clogged?

first things first, hook up a mechanical gauge to make sure that your oil pressure is in fact low

I'd put even a cheapo Sunpro gauge from Autozone on before digging into the pan again. It shouldn't take more than half an hour to install and you'll know what's really going on.

I thought I had an overheating issue until I temporarily put on a mechanical Sunpro temp gauge.

Thanks guys,
Yeah, the pump went bad, snapped the shaft, I will try these suggestions before installing a new one. Good information here as always.
