earlier today i was adding some oil to my car, i usually set the cap on the strut tower. i forgot to put it back on when i was done. i just got back from the car wash where i noticed my hood didnt line up with the fender. i knew immediatly what i had done. there isnt any oil anywhere under the hood. and the first thing i did was check the level. hadnt really moved. so am i ok? i think i wouldve already had a problem if it was gonna happen. so should everything be fine?

Don't even worry about it. A little dust/dirt probably got in there, that's all. Just put new oil in there.

My dad forgot to do that once on my mothers intrepid...after a little while she started to smell oild burning, a little bit had managed to splash out onto the exhaust manifold. Either way im sure you would have caught it eventually before anything really bad happened. I agree with the others though you should probably change your oil again just to make sure its clean and doesnt have any potentially harmful stuff in there.

You're lucky. Try leaving your transmission dipstick out after you check the fluid level... I was on my way back, from somewhere I shouldn't have been late one night, and my tranny started slippin bad. I pulled over and saw a nice glow from my midpipe section....Can you say FIRE!!! I ran to someone's house and beat on the door about 2 a.m. in the morning. Luckily the guy just got off of work. When he opened the door he saw a nice little fire under my car so he ran and filled a jar full of water.

After we put the fire out, we popped the hood and tranny fluid was every freakn where. He asked where was my dipstick, we looked around for it, and lo and behold, it was laying right there in front of the radiator where the hood latches. Just where I left it...

I woke up the next morning and started the car. It was so bad that while it was in neutral I pressed the gas and it wouldn't rev past 2,000rpms, not even with the pedal to the floor. The transmission guy said that was one of the worst transmissions he had ever seen, every gear in there had welded together...

But it doesn't stop there, here's the real kicker. I have an 89GT convertible, while my car was outside of the shop, how about some azzhole cut my top all the way across, climbed inside, and stole my radio...., plus it rained that night. How about a sign in the shop's window read "not responsible for damage or theft done to property....

Getting your car towed - $75
Getting your transmission rebuilt - $900
Buying a new convertible top and getting it replaced - $750
Getting your radio replaced - $350
"Forgetting to replace your dipstick after you put tranny fluid in the transmission, and forgetting to take the faceplate off of your radio.......DUMBAZZ (Priceless).

Hold on a sec...because you left the tranny dipstick out of the tube, it caused all that fluid to come out?

My dealer left the oil cap off when I first got my GT. Had some oil blow out in the engine compartment, but I cleaned it up. Reported it to the service manager and he gave me a free oil change>big deal. He was very upset that I gave the dealership poor markes on the phone survey I received and called me to complain.
Never went back.

Yeeeep. Blew it all over the motor. Every drop. That's why the gears welded together, it didn't have any lubrication in it.....
